CC Sabathia vs. David Price: A Close Cy Young Race Just Got Tighter

While the rest of the sports' world was watching a sloppy Monday Night Football game between the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens or perhaps watching the U.S. Open Final, MLB diehards watched as New York Yankees' C.C. Sabathia and Tampa Bay Rays' David Price dueled it out at Tropicana Field.

If you missed it, you missed one gem which produced post-season like excitement but no answer to who the AL-Cy Young front runner.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Live Blog: CC Sabathia, David Price Showdown

It doesn't get any better than this.

A 19 game winner.

A 17 game winner.

The best two teams in baseball.

Did I forget to mention they play in the same division?

What about the part that they are only 1/2 of a game apart for the division lead?

What about the historical significance that no two teams have had this many wins and been this neck-and-neck for a division race in MLB's 100 plus year history?

Derek Jeter: The Curious Downfall

When you glance at Derek Jeter’s .261 batting average in 2010, the first thing you ask yourself is: Do I need glasses.

Why?

Because, barring an extremely unprecedented surge, Jeter is on pace to hit below .300 for the first time  since 2002. More concerning, it will be his lowest batting average since 1995, his first season, when he played just 15 games.

So what is it? What is happening to the Captain?

Red Sox: Former Cubs Pitcher Rich Hill Added to Sox Roster

The Boston Red Sox continue to use the rest of this season as a tryout for future bullpen roles as they have purchased the contract of former Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles starter, Rich Hill, from the Pawtucket Red Sox, who did not make the International League playoffs.

Hill, a left-handed starter/long-reliever, was a fourth round pick for the Cubs in 2002 out of the University of Michigan, where he quickly propelled up the Cubs minor league system and debuted with the team in 2005.

Brett Gardner's MRI Negative, Gets Cortisone Shot

Via Chad Jennings:

An MRI on Brett Gardner’s right wrist showed no break or tear, but it did show considerable inflammation. Gardner got a cortisone shot and is hopeful it will do the trick within a day or two.

Yankees Notes: Javier Vazquez, Nick Swisher, Brett Gardner, and Matchups

The Yankees have been bad lately, but they’re still in first place because the Tampa Bay Rays have also been struggling.

That lead is down to just half a game though, and it will be put to the test over the next three days as the two AL East juggernauts go head-to-head.

Blue Jays' Pitcher Kyle Drabek To Start Wednesday: The Future Is on Display

The Blue Jays top pitching prospect has gotten the call. Kyle Drabek will start against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Acquired in the Roy Halladay trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, Drabek was one of three players the Blue Jays received in return.

Painting the Playoff Picture: New York Yankees Look To Add Another Masterpiece

As of September 12th, the Yankees are 87-56, a half game up on the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. The division will be at stake with the crucial upcoming Rays series in St. Petersburg.

New York Yankees Have Lost Six of Last Seven

The Yankees were swept today by the Texas Rangers and now have lost six of their last seven games as Cliff Lee was brilliant tonight holding them to one run on two hits over eight innings. Dustin Moseley was impressive, but ultimately not good enough as he allowed four runs over 6.2 innings as the Yankees lost 4-1.

Here are some highlights:

Brett Gardner To Have MRI, "Should Be Fine"

Gardner has had trouble with his wrist since June 27, when he was hit by a pitch during the Yankees interleague series with the Dodgers
