The world champion Boston Red Sox stumbled out of the gate this year, posting a 13-16 record through May 1.  Since then the Red Sox have won six of their last eight games and all three series they've played.

Now 19-18, Boston owns a winning record for the first time in nearly six weeks, and is only 1.5 games back of the division lead.

With Sunday's two-run single in the third inning of a 5-2 loss to the Houston Astros, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles recorded his 500th and 501st career RBI, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Jones needed 981 regular-season games and 3,680 at-bats to reach the 500-RBI milestone. 

The saying in baseball goes, "It, the season, is a marathon, not a sprint."

It's nearly impossible to predict what will happen over the course of a major league season. Teams slump, players get injured, and the improbable and impossible are always right around the corner.

With that said, it's fun to look into the future, especially when it's the future of a team with as much potential as the New York Yankees. So, with that said, here are three bold predictions for the remainder of the Bronx Bombers' season. 

They say numbers never lie, and this also rings true for the 2014 Boston Red Sox. A maddeningly inconsistent but nonetheless exciting start to the season has left the Red Sox with plenty of reasons for both optimism and doubt moving forward as the weather warms up and players fully enter their regular-season grooves.

As the second month of the 2014 MLB season gets underway, the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox are a .500 ball club.  While there is still a lot of baseball remaining, Boston has already played roughly 20 percent of the games on its schedule.  That's enough of a sample size to begin to make some conclusions about this year's edition of the Red Sox.

One month into the 2014 season, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Mark Buehrle has emerged not only as the best pitcher on the team’s rotation, but also as one of the best starters in the American League.

In fact, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that Buehrle’s performance so far has put him in the conversation for a selection to the All-Star Game.  

Yes, you heard that right.

We're now more than a month into the major league season and despite their struggles, the Baltimore Orioles currently hold a 15-14 record and are tied with the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.

Expected to be a major strength for the team heading into the 2014 season, the Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpen has been very unreliable out of the gate.

Toronto has already lost several winnable games because of late-inning meltdowns. The Blue Jays relievers have picked up six of the team’s 15 losses, which were attributed to them after they were called in with a lead and ended up losing the game.

That’s not the only concerning stat. In fact, it’s not pretty whichever way you look at it.

If the standings are all that matter than the New York Yankees couldn't be happier with their April performance.

The team wrapped up the month with a 15-11 record, and they're sitting in first place in the American League East.

However, April is just the first of a six-month journey through the regular season and isn't necessarily an accurate gauge of the season to come.

With that in mind, the first month of the season can still create handfuls of notable stories.

Sports rivalries can reach ridiculous heights, but few turn into grueling and personal legal battles.

Such has been the case for New Jersey club owner Lawrence Blatterfein, a loyal Yankees fan in the New Brunswick area whose only wish was to open a new bar called Buck Foston’s Road House.

Unfortunately for Blatterfein, when he attempted to secure a liquor license for his new venture in 2011, the city of New Brunswick and its mayor stepped in and put the kibosh on the entire operation.
