The Philadelphia Phillies have an outfield full of talented yet inexperienced players, and many fans want to see the club sign or trade for a proven veteran in order to balance the roster.

But would this be a smart move?

From the inception of the franchise in 1962 until July of 2004, third base was a revolving door for the New York Mets.

That all changed on July 21 of that year when a Virginia native got the call up from Triple-A Norfolk.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Texas Rangers will sign free agent Lance Berkman to a one-year deal, which may include a vesting option. Berkman had been leaning toward retirement, but this deal signals an apparent change of heart.

The Colorado Rockies' search for pitching entering the 2013 season continues. According to Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post, one of the low-risk free agents they are considering is former Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jeff Karstens.

With the clock ticking down to the beginning of Spring Training, General Manager Jack Zduriencik and the Seattle Mariners continue to search high and low for ways to improve their roster.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis has signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs—the team who originally drafted him in the eighth round in 2000.  

Spring Training can't come soon enough for rabid Cardinal fans, and with the turning of the new year, it's a good time to preview the Cardinals' 25-man Opening Day roster.

As usual, the team has question marks in the middle infield and in the starting rotation.

The Boston Red Sox made several free-agent signings so far this offseason. The moves have transformed the team from losers to borderline contenders in 2013.

However, if Ben Cherington truly wants to get back to playing in October, he will have to make at least one significant trade.

The Red Sox still have holes to fill for both the short and long term.

Fortunately, the farm system seems to be somewhat stocked with talent that is close to major league-ready.

This talent allows them to make trades for impact players.
