Bobby Valentine is the Answer for the New York Mets

When looking at the Mets this year, fans can see there is one thing they truly lack: charisma. Jerry Manuel is known for his laid back attitude and approach to the game. So far this has been terribly unsuccessful. He has a 152-157 record since taking over as Mets manager midway through the 2008 season. Mediocrity is not acceptable in New York.

Vin Scully: Dean of Baseball Broadcasters

Vin Scully showed again last night why he is regarded as the dean of baseball broadcasters still broadcasting today, and could very well be the best ever.

Bud Selig Leaving a Legacy of Inaction

For any person involved in professional sports there is often a discussion of what their legacy will be after they leave the sport.  Even players who were never all-stars can leave a legacy as a hard worker, great teammate, or role player.

Some peoples' legacy can be defined by a single event, such as a great win or a heartbreaking loss.

Carlos Beltran Goes 2-for-6 In Extended Spring Training Game

Mets center fielder and DL frequenter Carlos Beltran actually played in a game today .

It was an extended spring training game, but still a game nonetheless. He went 2-for-6 with a pair of singles.

Beltran ran the bases, although he took it easy with the running.

Mets Moves: Matthews Out, Castillo to DL, Santos and Tejada Up

The Mets made a few roster changes today, starting with putting second baseman Luis Castillo on the DL due to a couple of foot injuries. In his place, they called up infielder Ruben Tejada. They also designated struggling outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. for assignment and called up catcher Omir Santos in his place.

The biggest news is probably that they finally released Gary Matthews Jr. He came over from Los Angeles in a trade for Brian Stokes, and talk about disappointing, Matthews has been beyond bad while in Flushing.

Perfect Pitcher, Imperfect Umpire: Will Bud Selig Act for Armando Galaragga?

Bud Selig needs to ponder whether Armando Galarraga should be given his perfect game, which was taken from him by umpire Jim Joyce when he made a horrific call that ruled Jason Donald was safe at first base even though he was clearly out.

Yesterday was a day that had a little of everything, but the one thing most fans will remember will be umpire Jim Joyce making a safe call on a play that should have been the last play of a perfect game for Armando Galarraga.

Ken Griffey Jr., Cleanest Star of the 90s, Retires After 22 Seasons

The face of Seattle Mariners has called it quits. Ken Griffey Jr., the once bright-eyed youngster with a million dollar smile and backward hat, ended his career Wednesday, June 2.

Junior was the biggest star of the 1990s and one of the few who did it all naturally, as far as we know. Not once has Griffey even been suspected of doing performance enhancing drugs.

The Kid Says Goodbye: Ken Griffey, Jr. Retires

We didn’t want it to end this way. We wanted "Junior," "The Kid," "The Man Who Saved Baseball in Seattle."

We wanted one more laser-fast whip of the bat. We wanted one more smooth shot into the right field seats. We wanted one more ear-to-ear smile. We wanted one more moment to treasure.

We wanted the player of our youth, the stuff of legends.

We didn’t get it. What we got was Joe Namath as a Ram, Willie Mays as a Met, and Franco Harris as a Seahawk.

New York Mets Notes: Takahashi, Ollie, Beltran, and Murphy

The Mets suffered a pretty brutal 18-6 loss last night to the San Diego Padres that drops their record to 26-26 and into a three way tie for last place behind the Phillies and the Braves.

Here are some other notes

Hisanori Takahashi had his first bad start: 4 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K.

Oliver Perez ’s agent apparently told the Mets to put the pitcher on the DL so he could go to Florida and see a sports psychologist and the Mets declined.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Arizona State: Who Wins a Three-Game Series?

Entering June in the cellar of the National League West, the D-Backs are currently riding an eight-game losing streak (including a walk-off balk given up by pitcher Esmerling Vasquez).

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Arizona State University baseball team recently received news that they will be the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming 64-team NCAA Baseball Tournament.

So that got me thinking.
