The Chicago Cubs reached an agreement Tuesday with veteran relief pitcher Joe Nathan on a major league contract for the rest of the 2016 season.

Houston Astros outfielder Carlos Gomez suffered a rib injury on May 13, and he was placed on the disabled list on May 17. It's unclear when he'll return to the field.

Francisco Cervelli won't be hitting free agency after all.

The Atlanta Braves have the worst record in Major League Baseball this season at 9-28, and they opted to make a big change on Tuesday, firing manager Fredi Gonzalez.  

The Braves announced they have dismissed Gonzalez and bench coach Carlos Tosca, and Brian Snitker will serve as Atlanta's interim manager.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten off to a slow start this season, so an injury to Adrian Gonzalez's back is not what their lineup needed to see.

Gonzalez left Monday's game with "lower-back tightness," according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before exiting. 

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Garrett Richards will receive treatment on his injured right elbow in an attempt to avoid Tommy John surgery.

General manager Billy Eppler announced the news Monday, adding that Richards is receiving injections to help rehab the elbow, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register:

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor expects to be suspended for his role in the Sunday brawl between his team and Jose Bautista’s Toronto Blue Jays.   

Odor said on Monday, “I know I’m going to be suspended for a couple games, but I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing,” per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor will make $522,700 in 2016, according to Spotrac, but that didn't stop one fan from creating a GoFundMe page to pay for any fine Odor receives for punching Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista in the face, per the Dallas Morning News.

New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran hit his 400th career home run during Sunday's 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox, joining Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray and Chipper Jones as the only switch-hitters in MLB history with 400 or more homers, per MLB Stat of the Day.

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole earned the win in his team’s 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, and he apparently wasn’t impressed with what he saw on the other side.

“I don’t really think they’re the best team in baseball,” he said about the 27-9 Cubs, per Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
