Hunter Could Make an Impact When He Returns

Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reported the news Saturday just days after Hunter signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Cleveland.

On the heels of a strong 2015 season with the Texas Rangers, starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo cashed in as a free agent Saturday by signing with the Baltimore Orioles.

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang is working his way back from a leg injury he suffered toward the end of the 2015 season.

Kang Unsure of Opening Day Return

Speaking with ESPN.com on Saturday, Kang disclosed an update on his leg.

Legendary slugger Barry Bonds has been denied a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame thus far due to connections to performance-enhancing drugs, but the all-time home run king has no doubt that he belongs in the hallowed halls in Cooperstown, New York.

New Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry DiPoto resigned from the same position with the Los Angeles Angels last season amid speculation that he and longtime manager Mike Scioscia did not get along. DiPoto touched on the subject Friday when talking with MLB Network Radio about his new job (h/t Matt Snyder of CBS Sports):

One of the defining moments of the Washington Nationals' 2015 season saw Jonathan Papelbon and Bryce Harper engage in a dugout skirmish on Sept. 27.

The incident led Washington to suspend Papelbon for four games, ending his 2015 season, per Bill Ladson of MLB.com. 

After making stops with three different teams in 2015, Juan Uribe will hope to stay put in Cleveland. The Indians filled out its infield depth Friday, agreeing to a contract just shy of $5 million with the veteran third baseman, per ESPN's Buster Olney.

Seeking depth for their starting rotation, the Kansas City Royals signed left-hander Mike Minor to a two-year contract Friday.   

Former Major League Baseball utility man Tony Phillips has died at the age of 56 due to a heart attack.  

The Oakland Athletics, whom Phillips spent most of his career playing for, announced his death Friday on Twitter.

For the modern MLB crowd who may not be familiar with Phillips, he was basically Ben Zobrist from 1982-1999.
