The Chicago White Sox struggled to score runs last season, so they added some offense Wednesday in the form of third baseman Brett Lawrie.

The Tampa Bay Rays are known for carrying a thin payroll and opted not to spend to retain All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who is reportedly signing with the New York Mets. 

The Chicago White Sox acquired Oakland Athletics infielder Brett Lawrie in a trade Wednesday in exchange for minor league pitching prospects Zack Erwin and J.B. Wendelken.

The White Sox announced the news through their official Twitter account.
