Luis Castillo Released: New York Mets Cut Veteran Second Baseman

In a surprise decision, the New York Mets decided to cut their six-million-dollar second baseman Luis Castillo.

This came despite a respectable spring training for the 35-year-old, where he posted a .286 batting average and .355 on-base percentage.

The explanation the Mets front office gave for the sudden dismissal of Castillo was that the team was in need of cutting down the second baseman competition.

It's not Bryce Harper; he likely won't even sniff the big leagues this season.

It's Danny Espinosa, the rookie second baseman who burst on the scene for the last few weeks of the 2010 season.

Keith Moreland: On the Heir

You could make a case for any one of those players.

2011 MLB Preview: Teams That Can Surprise This Season

In 2010, there was dumpster-truck load of surprises.

The Texas Rangers dethroned the Los Angeles Angles in the West and the New York Yankees in the playoffs, who lost the division to the Tampa Bay Rays. The San Francisco Giants won the World Series with no offense in the regular season. And, of course, the biggest surprise is the number of no-hitters that went down last year.

There's no telling what will happen this year, but I can tell you five teams that will shock the world.
