Jays On Deck: Toronto Signs First-Round Pick Deck McGuire As Deadline Nears

It was a long time coming, but according to reports, that Jays have signed their first-round pick Deck McGuire to a $2 million contract.

McGuire, who has drawn comparisons to Red Sox pitcher John Lackey, was a standout pitcher for Georgia Tech in college. At 6'6", 225 lbs, he already has a MLB-ready body, now it's time to harness his ability and learn some control.

Bryce Harper: Nationals Sign Top Pick of MLB Draft, Mets Sign Matt Harvey

The Washington Nationals have agreed to a deal with Bryce Harper. It has been reported by Kendall Rogers of Yahoo! Sports that the deal is worth $9.9 million. This has been confirmed by Jim Bowden.

It appears as if the Nationals will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. With Stephen Strasburg already dominating in the majors and Bryce Harper on his way to the Nationals organization, the team appears to be on the rise.

Some scouts have said the Mets have the best farm system in the National League East, but that may soon change.

Vernon Wells and Edwin Encarnacion Clear Waivers: Encarnacion Moving?

As reported by Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays put both Vernon Wells and Edwin Encarnacion on waivers earlier in the week. News has come out that both of them have cleared waivers and can now be traded.

Wells comes as no surprise, given his monster contract, but Encarnacion clearing does raise questions on his future with the ball club.

San Francisco Giants: Zito, Sanchez and Cain...Then Let's Pray for Rain

"First we'll use Spahn, then we'll use Sain, Then an off day, followed by rain. Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain, And followed, we hope, by two days of rain."

Boston Post sports editor Gerald Hern wrote a poem that led to the above hoped-for sequence in 1948. Spahn and Sain were the only two solid starting pitchers on the pennant winning 1948 Boston Braves.

Boston Red Sox Return Jacoby Ellsbury To Disabled List

As Jacoby Ellsbury left Friday night's game against Texas in the fourth inning with "side pains," speculation indicated another rib injury for Boston's speedy outfielder.

Indications were right.

Confirmed by ESPN Boston's Joe McDonald, Ellsbury has indeed re-injured his ribs and has been sent back to Boston for an MRI and a CT scan.

It is reported that Ellsbury injured himself in the first inning when he collided with Rangers pitcher Tommy Hunter

Jose Canseco Living In a Garage; Get Hired As Coach & Designated Hitter

Jose Canseco may want to think of writing a new book or do something extraordinary in order to get out of the current streak of bad luck that he has hit. When Canseco was in his prime, he would date models and drive some of the world's most expensive cars. Nowadays, it seems like he can't even afford a nice home.

MLB Trade Rumors: Chone Figgins to the Braves?

Earlier this week the Braves third baseman Chipper Jones tore his ACL. He tore his ACL when he fell down trying to throw out a runner off balance.

This injury may end Chipper Jones Hall of Fame career and now the Braves are looking for a new third baseman.

One player they have looked at is Chone Figgins. Figgins is having a down year this year as the Mariners second baseman but he could be a good fit at third base for the Braves.

Toronto Blue Jays Sign Ricky Romero To Five-Year, $30.1 Million Extension

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has reported that Alex Anthopoulos has signed Ricky Romero to a five year $30.1 million contract extension. This is very odd for Anthopoulos, as he normally gives a bit less money in the early years of his contracts with options for big money later. In this case he gave Romero reasonable money, but this is the largest amount given to a player with less than two years of major league service.

Luis Castillo Acknowledges 2010 Is His Last Season As A Met

New York Mets fans have finally heard what they may have wanted to hear the past few seasons. Luis Castillo is calling it quits on New York. The New York Post's Dan Martin has quoted the Mets second-baseman as saying "I can’t be here anymore. I know I’m not going to be here next year."

The Giants Acquire Jose Guillen: Can They Compete With Padres?

Tonight the Giants will play the Padres and now they will have Jose Guillen. He was traded from Kansas City today for a player to be named later and cash.

Guillen was designated for assignment by the Royals recently and he is having a great season.

He is hitting .255 with 16 Home Runs and 62 RBI this season.

He will join a great lineup with the Giants who hope to catch the Padres out west.

This is the lineup I think will be out there for the Giants who are second in runs scored in the NL...
