Yankees Turn First Triple Play Since 1968

The Yankees may have lost by 2 runs against the Oakland A's, but this afternoon's game will be remembered for one defensive play.

In the bottom of the 6th inning of today's game, Kurt Suzuki stepped to the plate with  Ryan Sweeney on 1st and Daric Barton on 2nd base and nobody out. Suzuki, in the first inning, drilled a 3-R Run home run against CC Sabathia to give Oakland the early lead.

Rumors Swirl of Mark Teixeira Testing Positive for PED

Yesterday there were rumors flying that Mark Teixeira could be the next big name baseball player to be suspended due to performance enhancing drugs. Major League Baseball then made the announcement that it was not Teixeira, but Edinson Volquez of the Reds, that failed a drug test.

A sigh of relief was taken by the New York Yankees organization and fans.

Carlos Zambrano Moves to Bullpen: Chicago Cubs Fans' Heads Explode

As most of you have read, Carlos Zambrano has reportedly been moved to the bullpen for the Chicago Cubs.

How one comes to the conclusion that Zambrano is the weakest link of a starting rotation featuring Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny is a question no baseball follower can answer.

Zambrano has made six straight Opening Day starts for the Chicago Cubs and has been the proclaimed ace of this staff for the same amount of years, but the one negative tattooed on his positive stuff is his mental capacity to accept even the tiniest of irritations.

Carlos Zambrano on the Move...to The Chicago Cubs Bullpen

Carlos Zambrano was one of the many names this offseason that was being passed around as possible trade bait.  Now it looks like he'll be making a move...internally.

According to the Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan, Zambrano will be moving to the bullpen to accommodate the return of injured pitcher Ted Lilly.  Carlos Silva, the man who was seemingly destined for the pen when the time came, will continue to start.

Chicago Shocker as Cubs Manager Lou Piniella Moves Carlos Zambrano to the Pen

On a day that has Michael McCaskey retiring and getting replaced by his younger brother George, and the day after the Bears schedule is released, the Blackhawks lose to the seventh-seed Nashville Predators, and LeBron James gushes about how awesome Chicago is, we have news that trumps all those stories.

Cubs beat writer Paul Sullivan has reported via his Twitter page that three-time all-star starter Carlos Zambrano will be moving to the bullpen when Ted Lilly returns to the rotation this weekend.

Carlos Zambrano Moving To Bullpen For Chicago Cubs

"Because of his stuff," Chicago Cubs manager says Opening Day starter Carlos Zambrano is moving to the bullpen beginning Friday.

So now the Cubs have Alfonso Soriano making $18 million to play seven innings in left, and Zambrano making $17.875 million to pitch 3-5 innings per week.

Jim Hendry: EPIC FAIL.

Manager Lou Piniella went on to say that this isn't a "panic move," but has indicated to Chicago media that it might be permanent.

Creator Of the Minnesota Twins Logo Dies at Age 80

The artist who created the iconic characters of "Minnie" and "Paul" has passed away at the age of 80 after battling cancer.

Ray Barton was paid $15 in 1961 to create two baseball players shaking hands over a river as part of the Twins logo.

He was under the impression that the logo would simply be used on Dixie cups in Metropolitan Stadium, but it now majestically hovers over Target Field in right-center field, and has become one of the most cherished parts of Twins lore.

Edinson Volquez of Cincinnati Reds Suspended for 50 Games

Another year, another former All-Star suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Last year it was Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez who was suspended for 50 games, and yesterday it was Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez who was suspended.

Obviously Volquez’s suspension isn’t as big of news as Manny being suspended, but it’s still pretty significant nonetheless.

Here is the statement that was released by Volquez’s representatives:

Los Angeles Dodgers' Bullpen To Get Makeover, Hollywood Style

Through two weeks and 12 games, the story remains the same for the Dodgers bullpen. The pitchers coming out of the gate can't seem to close out games when handed big leads, nor can they keep their team in it while the game is close. It has become clear changes are required as soon as possible.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre is poised to make some moves this week with Hong-Chih Kuo finishing up his minor league rehab assignment successfully.

New York Mets DFA Mike Jacobs

When was the last time a team cut their Opening Day cleanup hitter just 11 games into the season? Has that ever happened before?

If not, the New York Mets made history on Sunday.

Call it a panic move, call it a move out of desperation, or call it a move just to create some buzz, but the Mets have designated first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment. In seven games, Jacobs hit .208 with one home run.
