Cleveland Indians

Bye Bye Jhonny Peralta

Today is a day that all Tribe fans have long been hoping for, but thought would never come.  Jhonny Peralta is no longer a Cleveland Indian.  Peralta was just traded to the Detroit Tigers.

Tribe fans are now feeling like a little kid waking up on Christmas, or a teenager on their last day of school.  In Cleveland, the summer wind feels sweeter,  and the water taste better.  Umm scratch the water, this calls for a celebration, so crack open the beer or Champagne.

Jhonny, We Knew Ye Pretty Well: Cleveland Indians Trade Peralta to Tigers

It's not often that the Indians make a trade that the fans can be happy about.

Think back to last year, when the Tribe dealt Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez away, or to 2008, when CC Sabathia was shipped out of town after his refusal to negotiate a contract extension at a reasonable price.

Even the Bartolo Colon deal of 2002—a phenomenal deal in retrospect—was heart-wrenching at the time, as it signaled the end of the team's streak of success.

Tribe Talk: Our 'Second Half' Team Starts Second Half with a Bang

Welcome to Tribe Talk, where Bleacher Report's Cleveland Indians fans weigh in on the ups and downs of the club each week throughout the season.

This week, we discuss the Tribe's history of being a "second-half team," commend Jeanmar Gomez for his exceptional spot start, and agree that someone needs to tell David Huff he isn't allowed to use Twitter anymore.

The Cleveland Indians All-Time Starting Rotation

The Cleveland Indians All-Time Starting Rotation

There is an ultimate fantasy league starting up, and it falls to you to pick the all-time rotation for the Cleveland Indians.  You can select pitchers from any era of the team since its beginning in 1901.  Who would you pick?  How would they fare against the best of other teams selecting their fantasy all-time rotations?

RIP James Gammon

The acting and baseball community lost a great one yesterday as actor James Gammon, who famously played manager Lou Brown in the movie, Major League , passed away at the age of 70. He passed away at his home in Costa Mesa, CA.

This is definitely sad news. Gammon's Lou Brown character in Major League was one of the classic sports movie characters of all time. You know a guy is great in a role when you can’t picture anyone else playing that character.

Indians Promote Jeanmar Gomez, Demote Him After He Wins Debut

In the second half of the 2010 season, the Indians have begun looking at some minor league talent. Jason Donald was brought up, as was Hector Ambriz, Anderson Hernandez, and Frank Herrmann.

On June 18, the Tribe needed a spot starter for their matchup against Detroit, so they brought up 22-year-old Jeanmar Gomez, a right-handed pitcher from Venezuela. The move was a surprise as Gomez was actually pitching rather poorly in Columbus this season, going 6-8 with a 5.70 ERA.

Duct Tape Can Fix It: Indians Can Learn From I-Phone Debacle

The Setting: A Cleveland Indians publicist welcomes the sparsely scattered media to an Indians press conference. The club's owner, Larry Dolan, walks out and addresses them.

"Good afternoon, everybody. I called this press conference today to address the faithful fans of the Cleveland Indians."

"We are currently in the midst of another disappointing season, sitting in last place in the division and nearly 20 games from our rivals, The Detroit Tigers, and current division leaders, the Chicago White Sox."

Could Josh Thole Be Included in a Deal For Fausto Carmona Or Jake Westbrook?

With the Mets having lost the Cliff Lee sweepstakes, they are still in need of another starting pitcher. Losing the last two games to the Braves and falling to five games out of first place and two back in the wild card race have made this need even more obvious.

Tribe Talk: Will the Cleveland Indians EVER Catch a Break?

Welcome to Tribe Talk, where Bleacher Report's Cleveland Indians fans weigh in on the ups and downs of the club each week throughout the season.

This week, we discuss the Tribe's terrible luck with injuries, Fausto Carmona's All-Star Game nod, and the long-awaited emergence of Matt LaPorta.

Cleveland Indians Big Catch Making Strides: Has Matt LaPorta Turned The Corner?

When the Cleveland Indians traded CC Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers back in the summer of 2008, the key player they received in the trade was 1B/OF prospect Matt LaPorta. LaPorta was a top-10 draft pick (No. 7 overall in 2007) and was one of the best prospects in all of baseball.

The Indians hoped LaPorta would blossom into their next young star, but it has been rough sledding for the former Florida Gator since the Sabathia trade. Through 87 games over the last two years, LaPorta hit just .236, with eight HR’s and a .299 OBP.
