Detroit Tigers Trading Edwin Jackson Doesn't Make Business Or Baseball Sense

Tigers fans frustrated by the team's lack of headlines since the moment Shane Victorino bounced out to Robinson Cano to end the 2009 baseball season need no longer worry.

On second part, scratch that last part. After all, the news isn't exactly pleasant.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of foxsports.com, the Tigers are listening to offers for starter Edwin Jackson. Depending on how you interpret the report, it's possible the team could be actively seeking to trade him.

Team 94: The 1995 Tigers

  • Year: 1995
  • Record: 60-84 (late start due to 1994 strike)
  • Win Percentage: .417
  • Win Percentage Change: -44
  • Run Differential: -190
  • Pythagorean Record: 55-89
  • AL Finish: 12th of 14
  • Manager: Sparky Anderson
  • Best Transaction: Traded Mike Henneman to the Houston Astros for Phil Nevin.  Henneman was lights-out for the Tigers during the first half of the 1995 season.  He had a 1.53 ERA on Aug. 10 when this deal went down.

JJ Putz to Detroit Tigers Makes Too Much Sense Not To Happen

Last off season, JJ Putz was the best move the Tigers didn't make.

If not for an injury to Fernando Perez that killed a three-way deal involving the Rays, JJ Putz may have been hamstringing Detroit in 2009 and not the Mets, and Edwin Jackson may have formed a dominant pitching tandem with Felix Hernandez instead of Justin Verlander.

Putz became a free agent today when New York declined his nine million dollar option. This time around, the Tigers have much less to lose in taking a shot on the Trenton native and former Michigan wolverine.

Brandon Inge of Detroit Tigers Has Surgery on Both Knees

The surgery was performed by Dr. Stephen Lemos at the Detroit Medical Center.

Inge is expected to be ready by spring training.

  • Win Percentage Change: +65
  • Run Differential: -228

Best Transaction:  On June 19, 1953 (just three months after my dad was born), the Tigers began their relationship with a man that is still involved with the club, Al Kaline.

Team 105: The 1975 Tigers

  • Run Differential: -289
  • Pythagorean Record: 52-109
  • AL Finish: 14th of 14 teams
  • Manager: Phil Garner and Luis Pujols
  • Best Transaction: Couple of decent moves here, actually. First, the Tigers drafted Curtis Granderson and Joel Zumaya in this draft, nothing to sneeze at there. Second, prior to the start of the season, they picked up Craig Monroe off of waivers.
