2010 MLB Preview: CHONE's WAR Gives Hope to Cleveland Indians For Winning Season

The Cleveland Indians may be rebuilding again, but it's hard not to be optimistic when CHONE predicts the team to win at least 81 games and finish second in the division.

Let's take a closer look at those projections, using WAR—Wins Above Replacement.

Could Fausto Carmona Be a Marlin?

As we go on during this offseason, we can see that certain teams are going to go through rebuilding stages. One of these teams is the Cleveland Indians.

Fausto Carmona is not necessarily on the trading block, but it is said that the Indians are open to listen to offers for him in order to help their rebuilding process.

The Indians may be hesitant to move him, but he has had two lousy seasons, and the asking price for him shouldn't be that high.

Cleveland Indians All-2000s Team

With the end of year (and decade) approaching, we here at The Dugout Sports Show would like to present our “Cleveland Indians All-Decade Team”. After hours of studying stats, and much careful consideration, we put together the best seasons at each individual position. Enjoy!

The Cleveland Indians were 816-804 during the decade, including 9-8 in the postseason, winning one postseason series, which came in 2007 against the New York Yankees.

Cleveland Finds Self In Last Place; Looks For Answers

Projected by many analysts to finish atop the AL Central, the Indians have certainly not lived up to expectations. With their current four-game losing streak, they have fallen to last place in Major League Baseball.

With a team ERA of 5.83, good for last in the league, and a team batting average of .263, the blame can be spread to both ends of the team.

Cleveland Indians Pitcher Fausto Carmona, Cy Young Candidate

In the past two seasons, Cleveland Indians pitching coach Carl Willis has seen two of his pitchers win the Cy Young Award. CC Sabathia won it in 2007, and Cliff Lee won it in 2008.

So, can Willis work his magic a third time?

As of right now, the Indians have two contenders: Lee and Fausto Carmona.

It is unlikely that Cliff will repeat, but anything is possible.

Carmona, on the other hand, is a very good bet, and for many reasons.
