Roy Oswalt Disappoints in Philadelphia Phillies Debut

If there's anyone like me who wasn't a true fan of the move to bring in Roy Oswalt, you're probably hoarse from screaming at your TV all night long.

Oswalt was incredibly erratic in his Phillies debut as he and the team fell to the Washington Nationals, 8-1.

Cubs Allow 12 Runs in the Eighth For a 17-2 Loss to Rockies

A defeat is bad a blowout loss is even worse.  The Chicago Cubs know exactly how it feels tonight in Coors Field with an inexplicable 17-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.

They had no hitting and plenty of bad pitching.  The 17-run loss is their worst this season after a 16-5 defeat by the Atlanta Braves on Opening Day.

Raul Valdes Implodes, New York Mets Lose Despite David Wright's Heroics

The Mets were looking to get revenge against the Arizona Diamondbacks after being swept by them in Arizona on the last road trip, but it didn't start out well.

Mike Pelfrey was also looking to rebound against Arizona after an awful performance on July 19 against them, a game in which he threw 51 first inning pitches.

Matt Joyce's Blast the Difference in Rays Win

Tampa Bay entered their weekend series against New York with the opportunity to reclaim first place in the American League East. On Friday, one swing of the bat put the Rays closer to their goal.

Matt Joyce’s two out, two-run home run erased a 2-0 deficit en route to the Rays 3-2 win Friday at Tropicana Field.

Nationals Rock Roy Oswalt in Phillies Debut

After being traded to the Phillies just one day ago, Roy Oswalt took the mound against the Washington Nationals. This debut is one that the Phillies hope isn't a sign of things to come from the 32-year-old right-hander.

The first batter Oswalt faced as a Phillie was Nationals center fielder Nyjer Morgan who started off the bottom of the first and Oswalt's Phillies career with a triple. Adam Kennedy would then ground out to second base, scoring Morgan and giving the Nats an early lead.

No Stephen Strasburg, No Problem For the Nationals

This headline is an idea that most any baseball fan would disagree with, myself included, except for last night. The loss of Strasburg did not deter the Nationals from winning against their division rival, the Atlanta Braves.

As the 40,000 fans were arriving at Nationals Park ready to see the phenom Stephen Strasburg in action, the young star was having trouble warming up. After a discussion with Nationals pitching coach Steve McCatty and GM Mike Rizzo, the Nationals decided to scratch Strasburg from the start.

Stephen Strasburg Who? Miguel Batista Fills in, Nats Still Win

Immensely popular and extremely talented Stephen Strasburg, the 22-year-old flame-throwing right-hander for the Washington Nationals, was set to face division foe Atlanta in hopes of collecting his sixth win of his rookie season.

Dissecting Matt Garza's No-Hitter

Matt Garza faced 27 Detroit Tigers hitters Monday night and rendered them hitless, recording the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay Rays history.

The Rays have been on the wrong side of two no-hitters this season, including Dallas Braden’s perfect game May 9 in Oakland.

Detroit rookie standout Brennan Boesch kept Garza from accomplishing the same feat, working the count full and drawing a walk with one out in the second inning. Garza got Ryan Raburn to ground into a double play three pitches later to get out of the inning unscathed.

Carlos Silva Pitches Five Strong Innings, Cubs Beat Astros 5-2

The last time the Cubs starting pitcher Carlos Silva won a game was back on July 6 against the Diamondacks in Arizona.  He then had two terrible outings suffering two consecutive losses and did not last more than two innings either time.  Tonight, his teammates made sure that they were backing him up as they pounded the Astros early in the game to give him his 10th victory of the year.  The Chicago Cubs defeat the Houston Astros 5-2 in the series' opener.

Matt Garza Throws First No-Hitter in Tampa Bay Rays History

The Padres and Mets are now the only Major League Baseball teams that have never had a pitcher throw a no-hitter.

Matt Garza threw the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay Rays history as they beat the Detroit Tigers 5-0. Garza completed the fifth no-hitter in Major League Baseball this year.

You knew eventually the tide would turn for the Rays, who had been on the wrong side of phenomenal pitching outings this season.

Garza only allowed a second-inning walk out of the 27 batters he faced.

Ben Zobrist sealed the game, catching a routine fly ball to right field.
