Roy Oswalt Requests Trade: Astros GM Ed Wade Confirms, Departure Looms

Houston Astros fans will soon be facing a sad reality.

Roy Oswalt is heading elsewhere—and soon.

According to Houston Chronicle sports columnist Richard Justice via Twitter, Astros general manager Ed Wade (pictured at right) confirmed the team’s right-handed ace has asked to be traded.

It was also the talk of the evening during Friday's night home game at Minute Maid Park against Tampa Bay—as both Astros announcers and sports media alike flocked to Wade for confirmation of Oswalt's request.

MLB: Roy Oswalt Want to Get Out Of Houston

Roy Oswalt reportedly requested to the owner of the Houston Astros, Drayton McLane Junior, to be traded this season, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Oswalt, 32, is currently and has been the ace of the struggling Astros this season.

You can see why he wants to get out of Houston: a 14-27 record.

The closest the Astros ever were to winning a World Series Championship was back in 2005, when the young right handed pitcher named Roy Oswalt won 20 games in back to back seasons with a 2.94 ERA.

The Next Five Guys the Houston Astros Will Get Rid of

Kaz Matsui's time with the Houston Astros is officially in the books. We are left to wonder his options. Perhaps he will join fellow Japanese export Ichiro Suzuki in Seattle, or maybe he'll head back to Japan and play for the Yomiyuri Giants, the Chunichi Dragons, Yakult Swallows or the Nagasaki Yakuza.

With that, we are left to wonder who will be next to be issued their walking papers with the Astros...

It's Time for a Houston Astros Fire Sale

Steve Austin, astronaut: a man barely alive. . . We can rebuild him. We can make him better than he was before: better, stronger, faster.

Those classic words, which opened each episode of ABC’s The Six Million Dollar Man in the 1970s, now apply to the Houston Astros: The Astros are barely alive, and it’s time to rebuild.

Dear Drayton McLane and Ed Wade: Let’s have a fire sale!

The newspaper ad for the sale could look something like this:

Kaz Matsui Released from Houston Astros, Jeff Keppinger to Start at 2B

It’s about time the Houston Astros made a positive move.

That move came in the form of releasing slumping second baseman Kaz Matsui—who has two days to clear waivers.

According to Astros senior director of social media Alyson Footer, the Astros “asked for waivers on Matsui for purposes of granting him release. If he clears wavers in two days, [the] Astros [are] on the hook for [the] remainder of [his] salary.”

Jeff Keppinger will get a majority of the starts at second base, according to Footer.

Bud Beats the Cardinals at Busch Again

Nothing is better for a struggling Houston Astros team than a trip to St. Louis? That doesn't make any sense. St. Louis is in first place in the NL Central. Houston? They aren't in first place, or second, or third or fourth. Nope, they proudly reside in fifth place, one game back of the powerful Pittsburgh Pirates.

And this is after a three game sweep of the Cardinals.

Astros baseball! After two eight game losing streaks, a third place finish isn't impossible, just improbable! I think that would be a great slogan for the rest of the season.

Piggyback Ride: 10 MLB Pitchers Whose Back SHOULD be Hurting

With Josh Beckett sidelined for yet another start due to back issues, it’s time to take a look at 10 current pitchers in the majors whose backs SHOULD be hurting them.

Carrying the load for a MLB team can be a burden, and aces such as right-handers Zack Greinke (Kansas City Royals) and Roy Oswalt (Houston Astros) know that all too well.

Today, we’re going to quickly glance at 10 guys who are doing everything in their power to carry the team, but in most cases it’s to no avail.

And with the Astros leading the charge from the cellar, we’ll begin today’s slideshow

Sweep In St. Louis: Why It’s Not Quite Time To Kiss the Houston’s Astros Goodbye

Believe it or not, the Astros have won four games in a row; and three of those victories have come against the first-place Cardinals as Houston swept St.

10 Reasons to Still Attend 2010 Houston Astros Games

You can see great players like J.R. Towles when you come to Minute Maid Park for an Astros game! Wait. He's now bent sent down to Double AA Corpus Christi. See what you miss when you don't go. Double AA talent at Major League prices!

Sure the Astros are bad. Really bad. But there are still compelling reasons to head out to the old ball park. Can't think of any? Luckily, I'm here to help.

Rockin' Around the Express: Will Ferrell Guest Stars for Round Rock

Comedian actor Will Ferrell was on hand at Round Rock’s Dell Diamond on Thursday evening, May 6, guest starring for the Express (the Houston Astros’ triple-A affiliate).

After watching a majority of the game from the owner’s suite, Ferrell entertained fans when he emerged from the bullpen as Billy Ray “Rojo” Johnson to start the sixth inning.

The character “Rojo,” an American-born pitcher out of Venezuela, was used as part of a skit during intermission leading up to Ferrell singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the seventh inning.
