Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki: Best Hitter in Major League Baseball History

Ichiro Suzuki recently proved he is the greatest hitter in Major League Baseball history. He had his 200th hit for the 10th straight year in the United States. This is a feat no hitter has ever achieved.

Pete Rose is the only other player who had 200 hits in 10 years, which took him 15 years to accomplish. All other great hitters line up behind Suzuki, including Ty Cobb, whose AL record Suzuki shared until this year.

Ichiro Suzuki May Be the Greatest Hitter of All Time

Ichiro Suzuki is an aberration.

At 5'9" and 170 pounds, Ichiro’s slender frame belies his incredible talent. He has one of the most feared arms in all of baseball. His bat is lightning quick through the zone. His speed on the base paths is that of a track star. But you wouldn’t know all that just by looking at him.

Naturally quiet, Ichiro keeps a low profile. Besides being one of baseball’s best, the 10-time All-Star seems to shy away from the attention usually sought by superstar athletes.

10 Offseason Moves the Seattle Mariners Need to Build Around Felix Hernandez

The list of things that went right with the 2010 Seattle Mariners season starts and ends with Felix Hernandez.

King Felix should be the favorite for the Cy Young after a stellar season that includes a 2.31 ERA (second in baseball), a 1.06 WHIP (tied for fourth in baseball), and 227 strikeouts (second in baseball).

Ichiro Suzuki is pretty good too, recording his 10th straight 200-hit season early last week.

After that, however, the Mariners roster is a collection of misfits, underachievers, over-the-hill veterans, and colossal busts.

Ichiro Suzuki Sets Hit Record Against Toronto Blue Jays

Ichiro Suzuki just keeps hitting and hitting and hitting.

No matter the year, you can bank on the New York Yankees having a winning record, Albert Pujols hitting 30 plus HR’s, and Ichiro getting 200 hits.

Ichiro Suzuki and the Infield Hit: Selfish Stat-Padding Or Revolutionary Tactic?

You don't have to be a fan of the Seattle Mariners to be a fan of Ichiro Suzuki. After all, Ichiro is approaching his record tenth 200-hit season, and also his 10th season leading the league in singles. No one else has more than four.

He's even been known to toss out the occasional funny quote.

MLB Anatomy: Constructing the Perfect Major League Hitter Piece By Piece

Who is the best hitter in Major League Baseball?

Well, that depends on several factors:

Are you asking for the most skilled hitter, or the most valuable?

Do you want a guy who can winning batting titles, or home runs titles?

Should hitting be judged by ability, or by production?

All good questions, and depending on your answers, you might conclude that the best hitter in baseball is Albert Pujols, Ichiro Suzuki, Ryan Howard, Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez, or Joey Votto.

Ichiro Likes His Beer Excellently Processed

Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is a unique fellow, to say the least.

Now he has become Japan’s version of the “Most Interesting Man in the World” from the Dos Equis commercials.

It seems as though the hit machine is the face of Kirin beer, a Japanese product.

Watch Ichiro act the part of a salesman on TheSportingRave.com.

Apparently, they make excellently processed beer. And that's the way Ichiro likes it.

Ichiro: Another 200 Hit Season?

Ichiro Suzuki is trying to reach 200 hits for his tenth consecutive season, but is still 73 hits short after slumping since the All-Star break.

He has only nine hits in 52 at-bats since the break while hitting .173 in that span.

Only one of his 22 hits in July has been for extra bases, when he doubled on July 15.

He was hitting .360 on May 15 but his batting average has dropped to .307 after an 0-for-4 game yesterday against the Chicago White Sox.
