BREAKING: Moyer Out For Season

PHILADELPHIA—This just in. Jamie Moyer's MRI results have come in and they don't show good news for the Phillies.

The MRI shows tears in three tendons—two in his groin and one in his lower abdomen.

He will not pitch again in 2009.

Recovery time is reportedly 10 months, but Moyer is expected to be ready for the start of Phillies' spring training in February.

Amaro's Pitching Moves Makes Me Sick

When Ruben Amaro was appointed general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies shortly after the team’s 2008 World Series victory, he knew the only way his inaugural season would be considered a success was if the Phillies managed to make it back to the World Series. Not an enviable position to be in considering the difficulties involved in repeating, let alone making it back to the World Series two consecutive years in a row.

A Perfect Father's Day: A Tribute to Jim Bunning

Today is the 45th anniversary of Jim Bunning's perfect game with the Philadelphia Phillies. It was the second no-hitter of his career.

He is one of five pitchers to throw a no-hitter in both leagues; he threw his first with the Detroit Tigers in 1958.

His perfect game was the the first no-hitter in the National League in 84 years, and was the seventh perfect game in baseball history and the third in National League history. (Seventeen pitchers have thrown a perfect game.)

Both of his no-hitters came in the first game of a double header.

Phillies Pitching: What Happened to The Six Million Dollar Man?

Pitching.

It’s a simple word with a simple concept: throw the ball into the zone.

Is 300 Wins Truly an Impossible Feat?

Why is it that 300 wins for a pitcher is a seemly impossible feat to achieve? Could it be that the style of pitching has changed? Is that pitchers just are not pitching as long as they used to?

I don't know.

Pitchers starting in little league are taught it is easier to fool the hitter than it is to blow it by them. Not only that, pitchers are taught it is okay if they only go 5-for-6.

Come to think of it, pitching style has indeed changed.

Park to Pen; Minor League Transaction; Other Notes

CINCINNATI– According to General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., Chan Ho Park has been moved to the bullpen effective immediately. After going just 1 1/3 innings on Sunday, Park has been demoted to the role he has held through much of his career– long relief.

Park didn’t say much, but did offer this to reporters: “I’m disappointed I lost the job, but I got a new job now.”

What Other Baseball Milestones Could Be Achieved in 2009?

With Gary Sheffield's 500th career home run last night at the new Citi Field, Sheff entered a group that includes only 24 other men - quite a feat considering the hundreds and hundreds that have played major league baseball.

It got us to thinking about what other baseball milestone could be achieved this season. By the way, props to Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye for not only hitting their 300th career home runs but doing it back-to-back. Now that is pretty awesome.

On The Rocky Mountain Way: A Recap Of The Phillies First Week

I would have written this article earlier if I had not heard the sad news. Sad news everyone. The legendary, Hall of Fame broadcaster, Harry Kalas; THE voice of the Phillies has passed away.

Mr. Kalas was found unconscious in the broadcasting booth prior to the beginning of the Washington Nationals- Philadelphia Phillies game this afternoon, April 13. It seems fitting for some reason that Mr. Kalas would “go” in the booth. It just seems fitting.

Jamie Moyer: A Memory For the Ages

Last year, if you'd told me a pitcher in the National League was going to have, over 33 games, a 16-7 record with a 3.71 ERA and 123 K and only 20 HR given up, I would’ve said:

"That's a darn good season!"

If you'd then told me the same pitcher would post 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, and 3 K in the NLDS and a measly 2 IP after giving up 5 R in the first inning of his NLCSappearance, I probably would’ve said:
