But that was before Johnny Damon appeared as guest host of WWE's Monday Night Raw.

Ever since the end of the season, and all of Theo Epstein's "Bridge Year" crap, the Sox have been in a state of flux.

The departure of Jason Bay (unless... ), the attempted trade of Mike Lowell, and the signings of Marco Scutaro, Mike Cameron, and John Lackey have in many ways opened up more questions than answers.

There's something cooking in New York and no, it's not the Mets.

Only two months removed from winning the 2009 World Series, the Yankees have had a very busy offseason.

They re-signed Andy Pettitte to a one-year, $11.75 million deal.

They made a three way deal to land Curtis Granderson, while sending Austin Jackson and Phil Coke to the Tigers and Ian Kennedy to the Diamondbacks.

They signed Nick Johnson to a one-year, $5.5 million deal.

And today, they re-acquired Javier Vazquez from the Braves in exchange for Melky Cabrera.

Today the Yankee$ reacquired starting pitcher Javier Vazquez (pictured) for a prospect and namely spot starter Melky Cabrera who went to the Braves. Due to this, this day, December 22, 2009 may live in infamy since I think it has the potential to be a stupid, hasty move.

Consider that last year at this time, Traitor Tex, formerly of the Los Angeles Angels and Braves, signed his massive mercenary contract with the Bronx Billionaires-i.e. the Yankee$.

What a difference a year makes.

The Yankees were Pedro Martinez's daddy (or was it the other way around? It still is unclear, but either way, someone has daddy issues...) and Johnny Damon was Boston's homeboy.

My, a lot has changed since then.

I remember when Damon came to the Yankees.

There is much teeth-gnashing among Yankees fans as they mourn the departure of Hideki Matsui and probable loss of Johnny Damon .  Even here at the Bleacher Report, writers accuse management of penny-pinching at the expense of the team on the field .  These writers are wrong.  Brian Cashman's moves have made the 2010 Yankee

Nick Johnson has reportedly signed a 1-year/$5.5 million contract with the New York Yankees.

His signing clearly states that Johnny Damon's time as a Yankee is over.

Damon is 36 and saw his asking price of 2-years/$26 million from this morning drop to 2-years/$20 million as he tried to stay in pinstripes.

The move is not only curious considering he'd have cost only $4.5 million more a year than Johnson and Hideki Matsui only cost the Angels $6.5 million.

I touched on this topic in Monday's post , as I wondered what the Yankees should do with the left field and designated hitter positions. My line of thinking was that the Yankees don't need to bring Johnny Damon back when there are similar options available at a much more affordable price.
