New York Mets: State Of The Union 07/20/2010

Remember a few weeks ago when there were all those rumors swirling around about the Mets going after an ace pitcher like Cliff Lee, Dan Haren, or Roy Oswalt?  Well, those times have changed.  The thing about being a New York franchise is everyone expects you to have the funds to pick up star players.  The Knicks, and now the Nets, have oodles of money, the Yankees have players that earn as much as some teams’ entire starting lineup.  But, the Mets are broke.  <

The Top 10 New York Mets Walk-Off Wins of the 2000s

Despite the Mets being known more for failure than triumph as of late, the 21st century has provided an abundance of thrilling finishes in the Mets' favor.

Let's take a look back at some of the more memorable walk-off victories.

New York Mets Activate Luis Castillo, Demote Ruben Tejada

As the Mets start a three-game series against the D-Backs, one thing is sure: Luis Castillo has returned. He has been activated from the disabled list, and Ruben Tejada has been demoted to make room. I, for one, am not happy about this. I consider Tejada to be a plus over Castillo. Neither can hit, but at least Tejada can field. Castillo is expected in tonight’s lineup.

Mets Will Make a Trade

Mike Francesa reports that the Mets will make a trade at the deadline. He said that they will make a "proper trade," and that the Mets have "no financial restrictions."

By proper trade I'm guessing he means that they will do a trade to address their starting pitcher and/or reliever problems.

The Mets are going to be in for a playoff fight for the rest of the year. There are a few things they need to realize.

First, they need to learn to cut their losses. Barajas needs to go. The clock has struck midnight, and he has simply can't hit anymore.

I realize that he did well for them early in the season. But he has been their worst player since June 1st.

Mike Pelfrey to Make Start for Mets in Series Opener in Arizona

PHOENIX—After a disappointing start to the road trip for the Mets, losing three of four in San Francisco, the Mets will try to fatten up on one of the league's worst.

The Arizona Diamondbacks find themselves in last place in an extremely competitive NL West, with the second-worst record in the National League, 34-58. If there's anything the Diamondbacks can lean towards to feel positive, it's their home record. Although not great (21-25), it's still a complete 180 of what their road record is (13-33).

New York Mets Blow Excellent Start by Johan Santana, Win in 10

Gosh. I actually have not been in my cozy little home this weekend. I have been on vacation in the interesting state of New Jersey. I saw Thursday’s game. I didn’t see Friday’s or Saturday’s. I didn’t expect to see any of today’s game, but it turns out I got to. I come into the hotel room and the first thing I see is David Wright limping around.

Asking Twitter: What is Wrong with the New York Mets?

If you missed the original post, I gave my opinion about what is wrong with the Mets, which I feel is the absence of Jose Reyes. Now it is time to go what other fans are thinking, via Twitter. On Twitter, I asked the following question:

Mets fans, quick, 1 thing you think is currently wrong with these mets?

I got so many responses, I decided I needed to post them. Here we go:
