With Brett Gardner off the DL, Melky Cabrera Should Head to the Bench

On September 7, Brett Gardner was activated from the disabled list, after spending nearly a month and a half there. Since then, Gardner has appeared in a majority of games, but it is evident Girardi views Melky Cabrera as the Yankees' starting center fielder.

Now, there are very few ways to quantify the influence a manager has. One sure thing a manager can do to help his team is to have his best options on the field more frequently than lesser options. Is Melky Cabrera the Yankees' best option in center field, with Gardner on the bench?

Where Does Joba Chamberlain Rank Among the Plethora of Young Starters?

Joba Chamberlain is just 25 years old and is about to turn 26 and he's in his third year in the Major Leauges. In his rookie year he appeared in 19 games and looked like the answer to become the eigth inning guy and possibly the closer of the future for the Yankees.

Yet, in 2008 George Steinbrenner had different ideas about Chamberlain. Instead of being the eighth inning guy, he wanted him as a starter.

Chamberlain did appear in 42 games and made 12 starts which meant he had 30 relief appearances.

Joe Torre to Face the Yankees in 2010

On Sept. 16, 2009, the New York Yankees and several other Major League teams released their preliminary 2010 season schedules. When looking at the Yankees' schedule there are several series that stand out.

Two of those are the season-opening and closing series against the rivaled Red Sox. Series against the Red Sox are always highly anticipated because of the long grudge that these two teams hold for each other.

But the countdown has begun for the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jesse Carlson Says "You Should See the Other Guy"

Depending on whom you talk to in the blogosphere, Jorge Posada's actions last night were deserving of the highest honors of douchebaggery, or he was simply standing up for himself. As a Blue Jays fan, I'm having a tough time defending the latter.

First of all, Jesse Carlson didn't even hit Posada...didn't even come close. Just like most of this season, Carlson missed his location by a mile. I'm sure he was aiming for Jorge.

Charge! Yankees and Blue Jays Brawl

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning in a game that the Yankees were losing 9-3, a brawl erupted between the Blue Jays and Yankees.

After a couple of Blue Jays batters were hit early in the game, Jesse Carlson threw behind Jorge Posada and chaos erupted.

Is this really what the Yankees need to be getting involved in at this point in the season?

Derek Jeter Is Number One

New York Yankees icon Derek Jeter moved past Lou Gehrig on the Bombers all-time hits list on September 11 with a single to right field in the Bronx.

Yankees Will Debut Against The Red Sox In 2010

The New York Yankees just found out who they will be playing to kick off the 2010 season: their old pals, the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees will open the 2010 season at Fenway Park for the fifth time in the last fifty years. 2010 will also be the only time in that span that the Bronx Bombers will face the Red Sox to open and close the season.

The Yankees, who currently sit atop a 7.5 game lead over their division rival Red Sox, play at home against the Blue Jays tonight at 7:05 ET.

Checking In With The New York Yankees' 2009 Draft Prospects

The minor league seasons are over, except for a few playoff games, so it's time to take a look at what some of the Yankees' draftees have accomplished so far.

Zachary Slade Heathcott

1st Round, OF: Heathcott signed at the deadline and didn't get much of a chance to start his career. He got into three games with the GCL Yankees and went 1-for-10 with a walk and two strikeouts. Next season, he will either start in extended spring training or with the Charleston RiverDogs.

Yankees Remain On Crash Course With Angels

I look forward to a potential American League Championship Series matchup with the Angels in the same way I anticipate turning 40 and having my wife tell me I need a fully invasive prostate exam.

To clarify, I dread the future worse than Chris Russo.

The Yankees beat the Angels at their own game on Monday in the Bronx, manufacturing the go-ahead run thanks to the infinitely valuable Brett Gardner and a helping hand from Chone Figgins, who was more skittish at third than Tom Brady in the pocket against the Bills.

Why The Worry Over AJ Burnett? He's The Same Pitcher Signed Last Winter.

With his most recent bad starting pitching performance, AJ Burnett has proceeded to scare the bejesus out of New York Yankee fans across the country.

It is a relief that NFL football started yesterday (Sunday the 13th) because instead of Jets and Giants football talk over the radio and TV airwaves, it would have been more of the up and down, Jekyll and Hyde AJ Burnett talk.
