Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski could have called it a career after 17 MLB seasons, but he will play at least one more year after reportedly signing a contract with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

The Atlanta Braves have completely transformed their roster this offseason as we sit at the two-month mark.

The man pegged to be the future face of the franchise as he ascended through the minors (Jason Heyward), was traded away to St. Louis.

The player who generated so much excitement as he completed the most thrilling outfield in the game (Justin Upton) did not last as long in Atlanta as the "throw in" (Chris Johnson) from that trade.

The Washington Nationals are taking a noticeably patient approach this offseason, but last week the team put a clock on it with the announcement of spring training dates. 

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Viera, Florida, Feb. 19 with position players arriving five days later on Feb. 24. To put it in more dramatic terms, the preseason is less than two months away.

The winter meetings may be over, but there are still plenty of MLB transactions to be made.  One of the most intriguing trade possibilities remains Troy Tulowitzki to the Mets. 

The Miami Marlins' offseason overhaul continued on Friday, as the team reportedly struck a deal with the New York Yankees for super-utility man Martin Prado and right-handed pitcher David Phelps.

When the Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Jason Heyward to St. Louis in November, it signaled that the club might be initiating a rebuild.

The Atlanta Braves' offseason transformation continued Friday as they dealt All-Star outfielder Justin Upton to the San Diego Padres for a quartet of prospects.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Braves will receive pitcher Max Fried, shortstop Jace Peterson, third baseman Dustin Peterson and outfielder Mallex Smith in exchange for the 27-year-old slugger:

The holiday season is here and the Mets are still in the midst of the current offseason. Not too many moves really need to be made at this point generally speaking, but that does not mean that any trade or free-agent possibilities should be ruled out by any means.

There is still a lot of time in the offseason to make some moves if general manger Sandy Alderson chooses to do so. Time will tell whether anything ends up occurring.
