Prospect Profiles 2009: Jamie Hoffmann

Padres-DBacks: Padres Use Huge Comeback to Win Tenth Straight

This can't be the same San Diego Padres team that lost 18 of 22 games through the first few weeks of May, it just can't be.

Well, you can keep telling yourself that, but the San Diego Padres came from six runs behind to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-7, capped by a big two run home run from left fielder Chase Headley in the top half of the tenth inning off Arizona reliever Tony Pena.

Padres-Cubs: Padres Win Ninth Straight Behind Young's Arm, Bat

Chris Young is known for being a strong right-handed arm and a stopper when the team is on a losing streak and they need a big start, but he's not known for being a hitter.

Apparently, someone forgot to tell Young that.

National League Power Rankings: Top Five

1. Los Angeles Dodgers: 1st Place, 30-14

The Good: The Dodgers pitching staff has been unbelievable top to bottom this year, and the results have showed.  Their starters have lost just seven games compared to winning 14 and their ERA is 3.57.

Chad Billingsley (6-1, 2.51 ERA, 63 K) is an early Cy Young candidate and has cemented himself as a top five pitcher in the National League.  As good as their pitching has been, the offense has been just as good.

Dodgers' Comeback Leads to Win in Extras

The Dodgers found yet another way to win Saturday night when down by a few late. As they've done earlier in the season, it was their patience at the plate that paid off.

Juan Pierre's bases loaded walk scored Matt Kemp, and the Dodgers overcame a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Angles in 10 innings, 5-4. With the win, the Dodgers are the first team in baseball to reach the 30-win mark.

Both teams played to a standstill the first 4 innings. Russell Martin hit and RBI double in the second to go up 1-0, but Juan Rivera's solo homer in the fourth tied it up.

Takin On the Los Angeles Angels

Has proved to be wild hasn't it?  A 3-1 loss on Friday night with tons of baserunners being left on base all night by both clubs was interesting to watch.  It was exciting and frustrating at the same time with my hopes soaring as the Dodgers would put men on only to feel frustration as they left those runners on to the tune of 26 stranded runners!!! 26!!

But, losses like that while frustrating I don't worry too much about since the bats are still booming so you know its only a matter of time till the runs start piling up again.

San Francisco Giants Showing Why They Aren't Ready To Be Legit Contenders

The San Francisco Giants offense was never expected to carry the way. We all knew it was pitching first and foremost and the performances at the plate would be at least an improvement over last year.

We all thought that the pitching dominance could overshadow the fact that Bengie Molina, despite all his clutch hits, is the cleanup hitter, or that a guy who had never put two good years together in the minors offensively could suddenly hold his own and produce at first base.

Breaking News: Gwynn to Join Padres

No, Tony Gwynn isn't trying a Michael Jordan like comeback, but the San Diego Padres liked his son enough to bring him home to his native San Diego.

The Padres traded outfielder Jody Gerut to the Milwaukee Brewers for Tony Gwynn Jr. Gwynn is expected to be in uniform tonight for San Diego and don the number 18, just one short of his father's number 19.

Pablo Sandoval Proving He Can Be Giants' Long-Term Answer at Third Base

In the days following the spring semester and the end of my college career, the task of killing time has been something that has become increasingly difficult as the days go by.

Showing Love To Scott Schoeneweis; We Are With You

Guys, this is going to be short. I just really feel like BR needs to say something after the death of Scott Schoeneweis's wife today. Not many pepole noticed this before the game, but there was one man not in the bullpen for the D-Backs.

As a Met fan, I have got to see Scott pitch and now I feel a bit closer to him and a bit sorrier for him after his big lose.

This will look like a letter to Scott from me and hopefully the rest of BR, but this is more a way for me to connect to Scott and the rest of his family.
