Ryan Howard on the DL: What the Doctor Ordered...for Ruben Amaro?

Sometimes during the course of a general manager's career, there are seasons where he does everything right and still can't win.  He might spend his money wisely, develop good talent, and make all the right, smart, and crafty trades to get talented players for little in return.  Yet somehow his team hits a streak of bad luck and misses the playoffs.

When an injury bug bites a team, there is nothing the GM can do but cry into his hat about what could have been.

The Chicago Cubs and the 10 Craziest Box Scores Since 1950

The Milwaukee Brewers obliterated the Chicago Cubs on Monday Night by a score of 18-1. During the course of the game both Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder collected five hits with Corey Hart only getting four, seven players scored two or more runs, and Fielder and Casey McGehee combined for nine RBI.

Phillies First Baseman Ryan Howard to Meet With Team Docs In Philly.

Philadelphia, PA- Just when you thought it could not get worse for the Philadelphia Phillies the injury struggles increased and, pending results, could send another Phillie to the overloaded disabled list.

What was thought as a minor sprain for Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard could turn into something more severe as Howard was sent back to Philadelphia yesterday to meet with team doctors.

Ryan Howard To Visit Team Doctor, Could Hit the DL

When it rains in Philadelphia these days, you can bet it's going to pour.

With the Phillies' No. 3 hitter, Chase Utley, already on the DL for who knows how long, the Phillies' No. 4 hitter, Ryan Howard, could be joining him very shortly after spraining his ankle Sunday against the Nationals.

Philadelphia Phillies Look To Gain Ground With Three Games vs. Florida

(Coral Gables, FL) - After a disappointing 1-2 in a three game set with the Washington Nationals the Philadelphia Phillies are heading on the road for a three game set with the Florida Marlins.

For the Phillies a three game set with the NL East third ranked Florida Marlins is coming at the worst time. The Phillies are 25-31 on the road this season and with the Marlins only four games back of the Phillies for second place in the division the Fightin's will need to gain ground in Florida if they want to catch up to the Atlanta Braves.

Behold the Amazing MLB Rookie Class of 2010

Back in 2001, the first "article" I ever wrote about baseball was an amateurish ditty comparing the 2001 rookie class to a great rookie class of a generation ago, the 1986 rookie class.

I am reminded of that article in 2010 as an endless stream of amazingly talented can't-miss prospects spills into Major League Baseball.

Report: Philadelphia Phillies' Slugger Ryan Howard Sprains Right Ankle

Things just couldn't get worse for the Philadelphia Phillies.

First, after landing the best player on the trade deadline market in Roy Oswalt, he struggled in his debut against a terrible team in the Washington Nationals. It was not a good sight to see, as Washington marched to an 8-1 victory.

Then, entering a game against the Nats again, it seemed that Philly would win and shake off that loss they suffered from.

They didn't. The Nationals won again.

Philadelphia's Ryan Howard Injured in First Inning of Nationals Game

After being hit by a pitch, Ryan Howard made his way to second base after a single into right field by Ben Francisco. Howard thought, if just for a second, that he might be able to make it to third, and began rounding second.

He realized his mistake in time as the ball was just about to reach second base, and made an attempt to jump back to second with his left leg extended.

The Phillies and Brad Lidge: It's Time We Start Seeing Other Closers

Breaking up is always hard to do, even when it's for the best.

You start reminiscing about all the good times you've had, the places you've traveled together.

It's even harder when you live together.  All their stuff is in your place, and everywhere you look are reminders of the good thing you had.

But sometimes it has to be done, even if you don't have another special someone waiting in the wings.

You don't stay with someone just because you've always been with them, hoping that things will get better.

Phillies, Not Eagles, Are City's Gold Standard

It’s been six years since Jeffrey Lurie armed the Philadelphia media and fans with one of the most explosive pieces of ammunition possible.

Fresh off four straight NFC Championship berths and a trip to the Super Bowl, Lurie kicked off the 2004 season by declaring that the Eagles were the “gold standard” for NFL franchises.
