Most pitching coaches and baseball aficionados would agree that it takes a few years for a starting pitcher to learn what it takes to be a successful big league pitcher. As Tom Glavine explained to John Feinstein in Living on the Black, “Young pitchers know how to throw hard, but very few know how to pitch”.

When looking for a young pitcher to target late in fantasy drafts, owners should identify players who have yet to produce top level fantasy stats despite having gifted arms and a collection of filthy pitches. 

There have been quite a few dynamic duos throughout history and pop culture–Batman and Robin, The Lone Ranger and Tonto, Wayne and Garth, Hall and Oates, etc.

Baseball is no different.

It's almost impossible for an offense to be successful in a 162-game season without at least two talented bats in the lineup.

A lot of offseason moves broke up some of the more dominant duos from 2010.

Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena in Tampa, Dan Uggla and Hanley Ramirez in Florida and Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman in Washington are no more.

It’s that time of year again.

The fields are being cut, the dirt is getting watered, and the mounds are being built up and pounded down.

Spring Training 2011 is upon us, and along with it a whole new flood of young players, free agent signings, offseason trades, and, of course, the prognostication and prediction as to where each team and player will stack up against their peers.

We've all heard about Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford signing with the Red Sox.

We've all heard about Zack Greinke being traded to the Brewers.

We've all yawned about Derek Jeter re-signing with the Yankees.

We all weren't surprised when the Braves went after a top second baseman in Dan Uggla.

But this list commemorates the moves that have been made so far this offseason that largely went unnoticed or didn't reap the round of applause they so deserved.

These players aren't superstars, but they will help their teams a lot more than most people think.

St. Louis muscleman Albert Pujols has done a pretty good job of imprinting himself on Major League Baseball's collective consciousness these past several months as followers of the grand old game have been compelled to consider a radical change of venue for the stand-out Cardinal first baseman.  

Did you know that Major League Baseball is the only sport where the ground rules are different from venue to venue?  Because of this strange stipulation, each ballpark has its own unique feature, dimensions and quirks.

This is the reason some stadiums like Yankee Stadium are such hitter's parks, and other stadiums like CitiField are such pitcher's parks.

No doubt that all of us who have been playing fantasy baseball for at least a few years have heard of position scarcity.

Over the last several seasons, I think the popularity of this theory has become even greater.

Shhh...do you hear that?

If you're a baseball fan, a sports enthusiast, or if you simply happen to hail from the Greater St. Louis area, I'm sure you are hearing the same thing I am.

Silence.
