While Brett Lawrie has spent most of August making noise with his bat, Toronto's 23-year-old third baseman let his athleticism do the talking on Friday night against Kansas City.

The 2013 season has been disappointing for the Toronto Blue Jays. With the acquisitions of R.A. Dickey and Jose Reyes, among others, many thought the Blue Jays would contend for a division title.

However, Toronto has failed to meet expectations this year. Instead, they've had one setback after another.

Still, it's been announced that manager John Gibbons will return for 2014.

There were plenty of expectations placed on the Toronto Blue Jays heading into the 2013 season. The word "expectation" has not been kind to the team, as the reality of the situation is that the Jays have not lived up to them. 

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was forced to leave the first game of Tuesday's double-header against the New York Yankees and was placed on the disabled list shortly after the teams' nightcap.

Although the Toronto Blue Jays have been extremely disappointing in 2013, it is very likely that the 2014 version of the franchise will look very similar to this year's team. In particular, many—if not all—of the team's primary position players could be back at their respective positions next season.
