1,000,000 Strong For Armando Galarraga! Bud Selig...Reverse The Call!

In case you missed it tonight, an umpire completely missed the biggest regular season call in the history of the game.

I don't care if I'm exaggerating and don't know much about the history of blown calls, but this has to be high on the list.

Jim Joyce, respected umpire for 22 years, missed a call with two outs in the 9th inning that would have given Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers a perfect game, the third this season.

Not only does this severely alter his place in history, but it robs us of the opportunity to say "I saw three perfect games in just about a months time."

I'm not going to sit here and attack Jim Joyce, because not only does he know he missed the call and apologize to Galarraga's face, but like I said he is one of the better umpires we have in the game.

Which leads into my point.

We need instant replay in baseball.

This is obvious.

We need to be able to review game-changing and history changing calls when they happen. The baseball purists who have resisted replay in Major League Baseball have as much to do with this as Mr. Joyce.

Look, I understand the reasons for not wanting to make the umpires stop the game every other inning and make the game even longer and more boring (on TV) than it already is, but where is the harm in having a replay official watching every replay?

It works in college football, where the referee will come out and say "the previous play is being reviewed" and he never actually watches the play, but rather a replay official reviews the play and relays the call to the referee through a head set.

Not only could I have made this call in real time, but after one slow motion look at it everyone could tell this was a blown call.

Bud Selig, I hope you're listening.

I've created a Facebook group as that is the only forum I really have to influence some change, and I will leave the link in the comments below. Please, everyone join the group, invite your friends, and see if we can't make a difference and have Bud Selig overturn the call, even though nothing like that has ever been done in professional sports.

These actions are likely futile, but I don't care, something has to be done about this.
