2010 AL Central: Minnesota Twins Stand Alone Atop the Division

"The slow one now will later be fast...for the times they are a-changin'."—Bob Dylan

If anyone's curious as to what defines classic music, it's that some aspect—usually several—is almost impervious to the ravages of times and fad while applying to a myriad of life moments.

Bob Dylan's lyrics are a perfect example.

Written almost 47 years ago, they fit the 2010 American League Central like those black stretchy pants that are in style on the fairer sex.

I'm a National League guy for a variety of reasons so, being on the West Coast, the Junior Circuit's rep from the middle of the country has always been the most unappealing. Obviously, the AL East is the class of Major League Baseball so any true fan of the game must be drawn to it despite the warts.

But it wasn't just a geographical thing or a competitive thing.

The squads were just...bland.

The Minnesota Twins, for all their small-market success, have lacked a player that's really raced the pulse of external fanbases. Change "small-" to "big-" and you might say the same about the Chicago White Sox.

The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians have had moments of glory, but fleeting ones and that makes it tough to draw much interest from a remote destination in the other league.

Let's just mention the Kansas City Royals also call the Central home and move on.

However, 2010 marks a new day for the Bigs as team after team boasts a dynamic young talent. Sometimes two or three and this division is no different.

Both the Twinkies and Pale Hose look primed to duke it out atop the standings for the duration, but even the nether-regions have exciting potential on display.
