2010 Boston Red Sox Preview

The Boston Red Sox came so close but they failed to make it past the ALDS by losing to the Angels in the first round of last year’s playoffs. However, it was an up and down year for the Sox that saw them finish with a 95-67 record.

Coming into the 2010 season we start to see new faces around the diamond and it starts at shortstop with Marco Scutaro who was grabbed off the market from Toronto. Going to the hot corner, we see new third baseman Adrian Beltre who hasn’t produced any big numbers since his reign in L.A. with the Dodgers.

The Red Sox also put in new outfielders Jeremy Hermida and Mike Cameron on the team. But these little pieces were just a smaller part of the bigger piece.

That bigger piece was pitcher John Lackey who the Sox beat out the Angels, Yankees, and Mets for this offseason. Lackey was 11-8 last season with a 3.83 ERA. He joins an already bolstered rotation with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester.

On paper, I think Boston is poised for a big year. But if Beltre, Youkilis, and the rest around the lineup start slumping, its going to be hard to get out of the whole.
