The 2010 MLB free agent market has many players including many former New York Mets. Here is an in-depth look at the fielders. This is Part 1. There will be a pitchers one in the near future.
Catchers
Ramon Castro—Castro was a member of the Mets from 2005 to the middle of this season when he was traded to the White Sox for Lance Broadway. In 2007, Castro had his best year as a Met, playing in 52 games and batting .285 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs.
Brian Schneider—Schneider was a member of the Mets the past two seasons. The Mets decided not to bring him back for next season. Schneider batted .218 for the Mets this season.
Vance Wilson—Wilson was a member of the Mets from 1999 to 2004. After the 2005 season he was traded to the Detroit Tigers for Anderson Hernandez. During the 2003 MLB season, Wilson batted .243 with 8 home runs and 39 RBIs.
First Basemen
Miguel Cairo—Cairo was a Met during the 2004 season. In that season, Cairo batted .251 with two home runs and 19 RBIs.
Carlos Delgado—Delgado was a member of the Mets from 2006 to this season. Delgado had a great season for the Mets in 2008, batting .271 with 38 home runs and 115 RBIs, but this season he only played in 26 games.
Doug Mientkiewicz—Mientkiewicz was a Met during the 2005 MLB season. During that season Mientkiewicz batted .240 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs.
Fernando Tatis- Tatis was named the MLB's National League Comeback Player of the Year in 2008 as a member of the Mets. Tatis also played for the Mets this season. This season Tatis batted .282 with eight home runs and 48 RBIs.
Second Basemen
Alex Cora—Cora was a member of the Mets this season and played a big role with all the injuries in the infield. Cora batted .251 with one home run and 18 RBIs for the Mets this season.
Shortstop
Marco Scutaro—Scutaro was a member of the Mets from 2002 to the end of the 2003 season. In Scutaro's second year on the Mets he batted .213 with two home runs and six RBIs.
Wilson Valdez—Valdez was acquired by the Mets this season due to all the injuries in the infield. Valdez batted .256 with seven RBIs this season.
Third Basemen
Melvin Mora—Mora was a member of the Mets from 1999 to the middle of the 2000 season. Mora was traded to the Orioles for Mike Bordick. In 2000 as a member of the Mets he hit .260 with six home runs and 30 RBIs.
Left Fielders
Jason Bay—Bay was a former minor-leaguer for the Mets. He is a three-time All-Star.
Emil Brown—Brown was a member of the Mets this season. Brown batted .200 in only five at bats.
Cliff Floyd—Floyd was a member of the Mets from 2003 to 2006. As a Met Floyd was frequently injured. In 2005, Floyd batted .273 with 34 home runs and 98 RBIs.
Willy Mo Pena—Pena was a former minor-leaguer for the Mets. Pena has hit .253 with 77 home runs and 225 RBIs in his career so far.
Gary Sheffield- Sheffield was a member of the Mets this season when he entered the 500 home run club. This season, Sheffield batted .276 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs.
Center Fielders
Mike Cameron—Cameron was a member of the Mets during the 2004 and 2005 MLB seasons. In 2005, Cameron batted .273 with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.
Endy Chavez—Chavez was a member of the Mets from 2006 to 2008. During the offseason Chavez was traded to the Mariners as part of the J.J. Putz deal.
Right Fielders
Xavier Nady—Nady was a member of the Mets for about half of the 2006 MLB season. Nady was traded to the Pirates as part of a deal for Oliver Perez. As a Met in 2006, Nady batted .264 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs.
