As recently as 2008, the NL West was actually the laughing stock of major league baseball, chock full of mediocre (at best) teams.
What a difference a few years makes.
While the only thing anyone remembers is that they lost to the Phillies again, the Dodgers actually had the National League's best record last year.
They got off to a red-hot start, before cooling down a little down the stretch. This allowed the Rockies and Giants to push them until the final week, with the Rockies eventually claiming the wild card.
All three clubs should compete again this year, and they could be joined in their chase for a pennant by the potentially resurgent Arizona Diamondbacks.
Save for the Padres, whom I am not high on but others actually are, this division is loaded with playoff hopefuls. I like so many of the teams in this division, I had to pick two of them to make the playoffs this season.
