The Major League Baseball season officially begins when the Boston Red Sox renew yet another round of hostilities with the New York Yankees this Sunday.
To kill some time before the 162-game euphoria begins—and as a primer for my remaining fantasy baseball drafts—I figured I'd take a crack at each of the Show's six divisions. As an added bonus, I'll link my respective team previews from 2009.
Feel free to mock away because there is plenty of ammunition tucked in each one.
First up is the National League Central because it's the biggest so it's nice to knock down as soon as possible.
Additionally, it's a good example of observers out-thinking themselves when it comes to predictions.
Often, when there's an obvious gorilla in a division/conference/league/whatever (in this case, the St. Louis Cardinals), the "experts" decide a dark horse will shock its respective world and emerge victorious.
It's just more fun that way.
In the 2010 NL Central, I've heard a lot about the Milwaukee Brewers making another run at the postseason. Several adventurous souls even have them knocking the Redbirds off their perch of supremacy.
Watching the Brew Crew rumble into baseball lore would be awesome; it'd make for wonderful television and easy fodder for the hype machine. Sadly, those aren't generally useful against a Major League hitter/pitcher.
Consequently, you can count me out on that particular bandwagon...way out.
