The Toronto Blue Jays made some big changes within the organization this offseason. They traded away their best player in franchise history in Roy Halladay but got back terrific prospects like third baseman Brett Wallace and pitcher Brendan Morrow who will help the organization a lot in the future.
They Blue Jays also signed closer Kevin Gregg to replace Jason Frasor in the closer role. Gregg pitched for the Chicago Cubs last season and collected 23 saves in 30 opportunities. Gregg also had 29 saves for the Marlins the previous year.
The only player of note left on the team is center fielder Vernon Wells. His numbers dropped off significantly last season. He dropped 40 points in his batting average and only hit 15 homers while playing 155 games.
That is five less homers than in 2008 in which he only played 108 games because of injury. I expect Wells to get traded during the season. I don’t think he has much use for the Blue Jays.
I expect big power numbers from Adam Lind and maybe even some help from third baseman Edwin Encarnacion who they traded for during the ‘09 trading deadline in exchange for Scott Rolen.
