2011 Cleveland Indians: Tribe Ink Reliever Chad Durbin for Upcoming Season

The Cleveland Indians have bolstered their bullpen with the signing of right-hander Chad Durbin.

Durbin spent time during the 2003 and 2004 seasons with the Indians. He most recently played for the Philadelphia Phillies, where he earned a World Series ring in 2008.

The Indians are reportedly paying Durbin $800,000 this season. The contract also includes up to $1 million in incentives as well. Durbin's career numbers include a 36-44 record, with a 5.05 ERA and 453 strikeouts over the course of 691 innings.

This move stabilizes the Indians bullpen, which could prove to be the team's strength this season after finishing the second half of last season second in the American League in ERA.  He will enter the mix for a bullpen spot with Frank Herrmann, Justin Germano, Josh Judy, Doug Mathis, Vinnie Pestano and Joe Martinez.

Closer Chris Perez, Rafael Perez and Tony Sipp seem to be the only locks for bullpen spots as of now. Aaron Laffey and Anthony Reyes might wind up in the bullpen if they do not earn the fifth starter role in the rotation during spring training.
