Jones Evaluated With Further Tests
Tuesday, April 19
Jones took three at-bats on Wednesday during Baltimore's 4-3 loss but left with what Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com said was a "stomach virus." Connolly also added "Jones left the stadium while the game was going on to get further tests. But the sense is it's just a stomach virus."
Jones has emerged as one the American League's most important players over the past handful of seasons. The slugger has earned five All-Star Game selections and four Gold Glove Awards while helping Baltimore end an extended playoff drought with two postseason trips in the last four years.
The 30-year-old center fielder has also remained highly durable during that stretch. He's played at least 135 games in six consecutive campaigns dating back to 2010. He did previously miss some time this season due to ribcage soreness, though.
If he's forced out of the lineup again, the Orioles will probably split the extra playing time between Hyun Soo Kim and Nolan Reimold. In turn, Joey Rickard figures to slide over to center field with the reserves playing in left.
Even though the Orioles are pretty deep offensively, especially in terms of power, the run production is likely to suffer at least a minor drop-off until Jones makes his return.
