Fox Sports is reporting that Angel Pagan is drawing interest from "several" teams. One of the reported teams is the Kansas City Royals, who would like to trade Jose Guillen.
If the Mets consider for one second trading Pagan to acquire Guillen, they should be contracted . Pagan is a better hitter, a much better fielder, and much cheaper.
Guillen, on the other hand, is expensive and has proven time and time again to be a cancer to the health of every ball club he has been a part of.
If the Royals really want Pagan , perhaps a deal could be built around sending Alberto Callaspo and a pitching prospect or two.
Other teams that might have interest in Pagan include the Padres and Cubs, who are both searching for a CF.
For the Padres, the draw would be that Pagan is cheap and is under team control for three more years. The Cubs have a gaping hole in CF, and with Kosuke Fukudome playing a bad RF and Alfonso Soriano playing a horrendous LF, Pagan's plus defense would be a huge help in CF.
Could the Mets work out a deal for Adrian Gonzalez using Pagan as one of the pieces? Do the Cubs have prospects the Mets could use to plug some holes? I think that these are probably both ideas that Omar Minaya and the Mets front office will pursue in the next few weeks.
