Angel Pagan was sent to New York for an MRI on his sore elbow. It was then discovered that he has a bone spur.
If he elects to have it removed now, he will miss six to eight weeks of baseball. If he does not have the spur removed, chances are that he will not be able to play. So, he will most likely have the surgery and try to rejoin the team once he is recovered.
Last season, Pagan created quite a stir in spring training by basically carrying the team with his bat. That hot streak did carry over to the start of the season, but by the second week in May he was gone for the season after diving into the stands for a foul ball.
After that happened, he pretty much fell off the radar of the fans who were impressed by his Spring performance.
Pagan, along with the other roster outfielders, will most likely have adequate playing time, as two players in the outfield have yet to prove they are everyday players—Ryan Church, who we hope will be concussion free, and Daniel Murphy, who is an infielder trying to become an everyday left fielder.
I hope Pagan opts for the surgery, comes back, and is able to contribute to this team and bring the World Series trophy to Queens this fall.
