The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim free agent pitcher John Lackey, above, is reportedly headed to the Boston Red Sox after signing a five-year deal worth $85 million.
That means the Angels will be without both Lackey and Chone Figgins, who was also a free agent and departed for a four-year deal worth $36 million with the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners were also just involved in a three-way trade with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies have reportedly traded for the Blue Jays' ace Roy Halladay. He will receive the remaining $15.75 million in his contract for 2010, and the Phillies will sign him to a three-year, $60 million contract extension.
The Phillies are trading away Cliff Lee to Seattle. The Mariners are having a market boom with having signed Figgins and now landing Lee. All other players' names involved in the three-way trade have yet to be revealed.
On a brighter note, the Angels have signed 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui to a one-year, $6.5 million contract, giving them a DH for their lineup. This, however, probably means that the Angels will cease their pursuit of Jason Bay, and they have already openly said that they're not interested in Matt Holliday.
