Conor Jackson has always intrigued me. He looks and sounds like a guy who should hit .320 with 30 home runs and be an All-Star every year.
Unfortunately, he is a guy who hits about .285 with 15 home runs every year. Which, if you consider it, isn’t all that bad.
But the issue now with Jackson isn’t his productivity on the field, it’s the fact that he can’t stay on the field. Jackson missed all but 30 games last year because of Valley Fever Virus.
Now this year, Jackson will be put on the DL again. The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Jackson on the 15-day DL because of a right hamstring strain. He hurt his hamstring on Sunday against the San Diego Padres.
Jackson was off to a fair start this year hitting .267 with .353 OBP in 11 games. He was the Diamondbacks’ primary leadoff hitter this year.
In his place, look for the Diamondbacks to use Gerardo Parra in left. Parra hit .290 with five home runs, and eight triples in 120 games last season. He is a more than adequate replacement for Jackson.
If you are looking for a fantasy spin on this, I would pick up Parra if you have room on your roster for an outfielder.
