Boy do I miss my childhood days of being paraded into the good ole Astrodome to watch the Houston Astros.
Walking up those long, wide ramps and your feet sticking to the ground with every step; the smell of beer, popcorn, and hotdogs; the long lines to the bathroom to stand over a urinal that looked more like something you’d see in a jail over a baseball stadium.
But wow, those are some of my best memories from my childhood.
I’ll also never forget watching the Astros on television, and hearing (as well as seeing) those old Busch beer commercials: “Head for the mountains of Busch; head for the mountains of Busch, beer!”
And, better yet: “Astros Baseball! Who’s says it’s only a game? It’s only a game!”
Does anyone else remember those commercials besides me?
Nothing against Minute Maid Park by any means, but I really do miss the Dome days.
Names like Nolan Ryan, Mike Scott, Craig Biggio, Jose Cruz, Ken Caminiti, and Glenn Davis; the list could go on for quite some time.
I also remember getting those mini bats when I was younger, and my brothers and I (along with our dad most of the time) would play “foil ball” in the backyard with the little wooden Astros bats.
Good times; great memories.
Just wanted to take a moment to reflect on what was once called the Eighth Wonder of the World: Houston’s priceless Astrodome…
