Hamilton Moved to DL After Jamming Shoulder vs. Royals

The Reds confirmed the roster move involving Hamilton as part of a series of changes that also included the recall of fellow outfielder Brennan Boesch. Mark Sheldon of MLB.com noted that the injury occurred on a diving play during Tuesday's loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Reds manager Bryan Price told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer that the team expects Hamilton to be ready "around the time" his 15 days on the disabled list are up.

Price previously stated that Hamilton came away from the highlight-reel play feeling sore, which caused him to leave the game, according to the MLB.com report.

Hamilton still needs to become a more consistent contributor at the plate if he's going to reach his potential. His .272 on-base percentage falls well short of maximizing his ability. But his speed (54 stolen bases) and strong defense (seven defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs) still make him valuable.

Skip Schumaker and Marlon Byrd should both receive more consistent playing time alongside Jay Bruce in the outfield while Hamilton is sidelined. Boesch will provide extra depth after being promoted.
