Blue Jays-White Sox: Roy Halladay Earns Eighth Victory In 8-2 Win

Roy Halladay earned his league leading eighth victory this afternoon in a 8-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox, putting the Jays up 3-0 in the four-game set.

The game did not start off well for Halladay, as he gave up a double to speedy leadoff hitter Scott Podsednik and was down 2-0 before the Jays were even allowed to hit.

The Jays were able to get a run back in their half of the first when Alex Rios deposited a high fastball into the left field seats for his fifth home run of the season.

The bats started to quiet down until the fourth inning, as Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd proceeded to give up three runs on a monster shot from the bat of Adam Lind, giving him his seventh home run of the season and team leading 35th RBI.

The Jays got a scare in the fifth when Marco Scutaro was hit in the chest by a ball thrown by Sox catcher Corky Miller while stealing third. He finished the inning, scoring a run, but was replaced by John McDonald in the sixth; he should be okay.

Halladay went on to mow down the Sox after his shaky first inning and finished the game with seven innings pitched, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits, one walk, while striking out eight batters.

Jason Frasor, Jesse Carlson, and Brandon League combined to pitch the last two innings and held the White Sox scoreless.

Sox starter Gavin Floyd was done after just five innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, two walks, while striking out four batters.

The Jays added two more insurance runs in the eighth off of Sox closer Bobby Jenks—one on a Aaron Hill home run, his team leading 11th of the season, and one on a Lyle Overbay single.

Up Next: Scott Richmond (4-2) tries to make up for his last start against Sox rookie Clayton Richard (0-0).
