In the MLB you need starting pitchers to go deep into the game so you don't have to use the bullpen that much. Also you need a good offensive attack. Well the Brewers have the offense, just not the starting pitching.
If you look at last year's pitching we had Ben Sheets and a late trade to acquire stud CC Sabathia.
Now who do they have? Yovani Gallardo, Manny Parra, Jeff Suppan, Dave Bush, and Braden Looper. Yeah, OK. Yovani is good in all bur inexperienced. Jeff Suppan is getting up there in age and Manny is young Bush was inconsistent last year and Looper is new to the organization and was good for the Cardinals last year, but when so was Suppan when we picked him up.
I mean Suppan is 1-2 with a 8.56 ERA. Gallardo is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA. Bush hasn't recorded a decision but has a 5.40 ERA. Para is 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA. And Looper is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA. Now it seems that I am bashing on just the starting pitching.
No, the bullpen has been no help either. Like our "saver" Carlos Villanueva, who, is 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA. That is unacceptable.
So what the Brewers have to do is find a pitcher that will go the distance in a game, or some one that will actually get past the seventh inning.
On the offense side of things we have on of the best run producing threats in the league in Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. Corey Hart and J.J. Hardy have been have a good year too. Also Mike Cameron is leading the Brewers in the home run category.
All in all we need pitcher who don't give up walks and then home runs or hits. Because we have the offence that a pitcher wants.
