Brian Sabean Should Be Handed His Pink Slip

I work as a produce manager at a grocery store. Today was a beautiful Monday in Santa  Rosa. The day after Easter and just days before I go on a nice vacation, I was building a display of navel oranges at work when a regular customer named "Bill" came in.

Bill is a Giants Fan and like myself, has a general hatred for the Los Angeles Dodgers. I didn't get to watch the game because I was at work, so I asked him how the game was going and if the Giants were winning.

The question immediately wiped the smile off of his face, and he said "Shamus, it was pathetic. I had to turn the game off". My heart immediately sank as he told me Johnson got shelled and the they weren't hitting at all.

All of the sudden, a dark cloud came over my produce department and I felt my blood start to boil, my stomach started to turn like I just tried to drink a gallon of milk in an hour; I was enraged. The display of navel oranges almost got destroyed with a temper tantrum by myself.

Today's 11-1 beat down was just a sign of things to come this season.

The Giants lack the power in their line up to contend. The blame for this lies only on the shoulders of Brian Sabean.

The Giants claim to be relying on pitching and defense.  The problem with that is now Johnson already looks like a bust, and Zito is a bust.

I have known deep down inside that signing Randy Johnson and Edgar Renteria was a mistake. If the Giants would have waited out the market, then maybe the could have signed Manny Ramirez or even signed Orlando Hudson, who has been on fire so far this season. Orlando Hudson would have been a nice upgrade at second base over Emmanuel Burris, who has a .111 batting average so far this season. Kevin Frandsen could have a job soon.

Here is my laundry list of Brian Sabean screw ups:

Not re-signing Jeff Kent - Yes, Bonds and Kent didn't get along, but they could have worked through their problems

Signing Edgardo Alfonzo - I couldn't stand this guy. Highly Overrated.

Signing Armando Benitez - This one still stings. This guy nearly gave me Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sabean held on too long to this empty uniform.

Trading Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser for A.J "one and done" Pierznski. This is one of the worst trades to go down in baseball history and set the Giants back years. This trade made us have to go through the Armando Benitez fiasco.

Not pursing Vlad Guerrero - He would have made Bonds just that much better. Sabean didn't pull the trigger. Who knows what would have happened in 2003-04 if he is in the lineup with Barry Bonds.

Other signings that were busts - Moises Alou, Ray Durham, Mike Matheny, and Matt Herges— they all did more harm than good.

I hear some people put the Zito signing on Sabean and this is untrue. It was Peter Magowan that made this mistake. Not Sabean, for once.

If Sabean isn't fired by the end of the season, I would be shocked and angry. The team needs a new brain behind the operation.

Who that is, I don't know.
