The New York Yankees played a split squad double header today beating the Huston Astros by a score of 3-1 at The Boss and Beating the Pittsburgh Pirates at McKechnie Field 13-10.

ajA.J. Burnett dominated the Astros in his second start of this spring throwing four perfect innings and striking out three. Burnett, who has not allowed a run the spring has the Yankees excited for the season to start.

Edwar Ramirez made his spring debut, pitching an inning of relief giving up one hit and striking out one. Ramirez had been sidelined with a sore shoulder since early in spring training.

Six of the nine Yankees had hits in the game. Ramirez hit a home run and Cody Ransom was the only batter on either side to have two hits.

Phil Hughes started against the Pirates and had a so so day, he pitched three innings giving up two runs on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Ian Kennedy got the win going three innings allowing a hit, an unearned run, five strikeouts, and a walk.

But the real story of the Day was the grand slam by Yankees top prospect Jesus Montero. Montero, who is only 19 years old, is hitting .667 this spring. Montero led the organization with a .328 avg. last season. Montero is said to have major league power already. The only weak spot in his game is his defense which he immensely improved last season. Montero will most likely be with the Yankees’ single-A affiliate, the Tampa Yankees.
