Can Aroldis Chapman Have As Much Talent As Randy Johnson?

Could Aroldis Chapman have as much talent as the Big Unit? It has been said, and not by me. Some of the other suitors who lost out in the bid to get Chapman, said that he has that kind of talent but needs to have it nurtured.

My speculation is that you will see him in a Cincinnati uniform between Memorial Day and the All-Star break. I am not saying he will stay for the duration, but I think he will be given a chance to show what he can do.

Randy Johnson did a couple of years in the minors before stepping up to the big stage. I honestly don't think the Reds will afford Chapman that same treatment.

With the $30 million they have invested in the young man, my instincts say that he will pretty much "hit the ground running" as they say.

What kind of potential does the young man possess? He can throw at the 100 mph mark and showed the world his stuff in the World Baseball Classic last spring.

The Reds have been without a steady southpaw starter for too many years, and have had a triple dose of left handed hitting against them.

With starter Edinson Volquez likely on the shelf until the All-Star break, I think it would be a good idea to get him up to the big leagues as soon as possible.

What is there to wait for?
