Carlos Gomez Injury: Updates on Astros OF's Knee and Return

Outfielder Carlos Gomez has had an up-and-down stint with the Houston Astros since they acquired him from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade, but the AL West leaders will be without him for at least one game.

Gomez Out Wednesday with Knee Injury

Wednesday, Aug. 12

According to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle, Gomez will miss Wednesday's interleague contest against the San Francisco Giants after hitting his knee against the wall in Tuesday night's contest.

Manager A.J. Hinch isn't particularly worried about the ailment and characterized it as a minor injury, per Drellich:

While every game is important for Houston as it nurses a one-game divisional lead over the Los Angeles Angels, Hinch indicated to Drellich that Gomez could have played Wednesday if he needed him to.

After being named an All-Star in both 2013 and 2014, Gomez's 2015 season hasn't been quite as productive. He is hitting .259 with nine home runs, 47 RBI and 11 stolen bases overall with a slash line of just .239/.271/.348 since making the leap from Milwaukee.

Injuries have been Gomez's biggest nemesis this season as he was placed on the disabled list early in the year with a hamstring injury.

Gomez hit 23 home runs and stole 34 bases in 2014, but he hasn't been able to regain that unique power-speed combination in 2015 due largely to his health.

Despite his struggles, Gomez is a constant threat at the plate and on the basepaths, and he is also a plus fielder.

Gomez brings a different dimension to Houston's lineup, and although it should be able to press on without him for a day or two thanks to the depth provided by someone like Jake Marisnick, anything beyond that would be worrisome.
