Carter's MLB Power Rankings: May 11

1. New York Mets (17-13, Last Week: No. 24)

They're not necessarily the best team in baseball, but they certainly are the hottest, winning eight of their last ten games. I picked this team to be the top contender for the National League Championship and they are starting to make me look like a genius right about now.

2. Toronto Blue Jays (22-12, Last Week: No. 2)

Offense is still the key.

This team has been playing like a top-five club since the start of the season (surprisingly) and if they continue to swing the bats like they are, they could be sticking around the top five for a while.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers (22-11, Last Week: No. 1)

No more Manny, so I really had no other choice but to drop them a couple of spots.

4. Boston Red Sox (20-12, Last Week: No. 3)

After watching the Red Sox beat the Rays on Sunday night, I realized that Jonathan Papelbon is officially the most feared "lights out" closer in the majors today.

5. St. Louis Cardinals (20-12, Last Week: No. 4)

So the red birds drop off a bit after being the best team in baseball for the past two weeks, only winning five of their last ten.

6. Texas Rangers (17-14, Last Week: No. 17)

After watching Matt Harrison, Kevin Millwood, and Vicente Padilla all play pretty good games against last week, the Rangers are starting to become a pretty interesting team. Plus, Josh Hamilton is coming back which makes them an even more dangerous team.

WARNING!: DO NOT SLEEP ON THE TEXAS RANGERS!

7. Chicago Cubs (17-14, Last Week: No. 15)

After slipping up two weeks ago, the Cubbies are starting to get it together once again. They've won seven of their last ten...not bad.

8. Detroit Tigers (17-13, Last Week: No. 7)

Great offense from Polanco, Granderson, and Cabrera give the Tigers a top-ten spot once again.

9. Milwaukee Brewers (18-14, Last Week: No. 16)

Ryan Braun is one of the best pure athletes in the game today. Brewers fans should be proud to have a guy like him on their team.

10. Kansas City Royals (18-14, Last Week: No. 8)

So, how 'bout that Zack Greinke kid?

11. Los Angeles Angels (16-14, Last Week: No. 22)

Something tells me that it's going to come down to them and the Rangers to determine the winners of the AL West Championship.

12. San Francisco Giants (16-14, Last Week: No. 11)

Just like the Royals, if this team didn't have great pitching staff like they do, this team would be terrible.

13. Cincinnati Reds (17-14, Last Week: No. 14)

Guys like Edison Volquez, Aaron Harang, and Johnny Cueto are keeping things pretty calm in Cincinnati.

14. Philadelphia Phillies (15-14, Last Week: No. 6)

My confidence in the Phillies is starting to fade. They've lost two in a row and four of their last six. They might not see a top-ten ranking for a while.

15. Florida Marlins (17-15, Last Week: No. 5)

In the words of Arizona  Dennis Green "They are who we thought they were!" Yeah so they are who I thought they were, and that is a team that's not as good as advertised.

16. Tampa Bay Rays (15-17, Last Week: No. 28)

After fading away from the elite pack of teams for the first four seeks of baseball, the Rays finally make a bit of a push, winning six of their last ten.

17. Atlanta Braves (15-16, Last Week: No. 19)

Guys like Derek Lowe, Javier Vasquez, and Kenshin Kawakami continue to lead the Braves pitching staff, which is the only thing that have the Braves out of the bottom ten at the moment.

18. New York Yankees (15-16, Last Week: No. 9)

Behind Mariano Rivera, the Yankees bullpen is a complete joke, face it.

19. Chicago White Sox (14-16, Last Week: No. 13)

I would hate to be Jose Contreras right about now.

20. Seattle Mariners (16-16, Last Week: No. 10)

Wow! What happened to the Mariners? After being a top-five team for the first month of the season, it looks like the M's are starting to be the kind of team everybody expected.

21. Houston Astros (14-17, Last Week: No. 26)

Is anybody else aware that Lance Berkman is batting .184? (19 hits in 103 at-bats)

22. Colorado Rockies (12-18, Last Week: No. 23)

Not much excitement is coming out of Denver. Besides Dexter Fowler and Todd Helton, this team isn't fun to watch.

23. Minnesota Twins (15-17, Last Week: No. 18)

I hope Denard Span does well this year. I just added him to my fantasy team!

24. Baltimore Orioles (13-19, Last Week: No. 30)

This team is officially the door mat of the American League East Division.

25. Oakland Athletics (11-18, Last Week: No. 20)

Not only is Andrew Bailey pretty good, but Michael Wuertz isn't so bad either.

26. Washington Nationals (13-19, Last Week: No. 29)

This team is clearly having pitching problems. But they are not the worst team in the majors for once. The Nats have had a decent past couple of weeks. Six wins in their last ten games.

27. Arizona Diamondbacks (13-19, Last Week: No. 21)

You know this team might not get very far if the team's manager is fired after one month of play.

28. Cleveland Indians (11-21, Last Week: No. 27)

You can't see it, but I'm hanging my head in disappointment as I type this.

29. San Diego Padres (13-19, Last Week: No. 25)

Lack of pitching+two wins in their last ten games+3-game losing streak=bottom five ranking.

30. Pittsburgh Pirates (12-19, Last Week: No. 12)

I knew this team would fall as some point, but I didn't expect it to happen that fast...well i kinda did....
