Carter's MLB Power Rankings: May 18

NOTE: Team W-L records and player stats updated through Sunday morning, May 17.

So here are my top 30 MLB Power Rankings for week six. I give my comments on only the top 10 teams this week mainly because of my busy schedule. Enjoy and feel free to drop a comment if you agree or disagree with my rankings.

1. Texas Rangers (22-14, Last Week: No. 6)

Plenty of reasons why this team is the new number one team. A 12-3 record in the month of May, six-game winning streak as of Sunday morning, and are currently one of only three teams that have won eight of their last 10 games (Brewers and Mets are the other two teams).

They are being led by great hitters like Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, and Michael Young. After sweeping the Angels this weekend, how can you not have this team No. 1?

2. Milwaukee Brewers (21-14, Last Week: No. 9)

This team has only lost for games in the month of May and have won eight of their last ten. This team could go back and forth with the Cubs for the NL Central Division lead.

3. Chicago Cubs (21-14, Last Week: No. 7)

After a weird start to the season, the Cubbies are pulling themselves together. Cubs fans should be proud of what they've seen over the past couple of weeks. The Cubs have won seven of their last 10 games. Alfonso Soriano continues to lead the way for the Cubs offense.

4. Toronto Blue Jays (25-14, Last Week: No. 2)

So they dropped off a bit. Mainly because the Jays have only won six of their last ten games, which is okay, but I'm looking for a little more than that. Their offense continues to be the best in the majors, and Roy Halladay is still pitching excellent.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (25-13, Last Week: No. 3)

This team is the best in the majors for obvious reasons, but are definitely not the hottest anymore. They have only won five of their last 10 games are showing signs of missing Manny being on the field.

6. New York Mets (21-15, Last Week: No. 1)

The Atlanta Braves were a tough test for the Mets. But overall, I think the Mets are still playing very well and are going to be a top-ten team for the remainder of the season.

7. Cincinnati Reds (20-16, Last Week: No. 13)

This team is becoming a dark-horse of the National League. I don't see this team making the playoffs, but I am very impressed with Johnny Cueto, who is pitching very well over the first few starts.

8. Boston Red Sox (22-15, Last Week: No. 4)

All great teams have slumps over the course of the season, and I guess this is one of those slumps for Boston. They dropped out of the top five because of their not-so-exciting 5-5 record over the past 10 games. But Boston does have all of the talent in the world to get back in the top five. Just a matter of time.

9. Philadelphia Phillies (19-16, Last Week: No. 14)

There are so many players on their roster that I have been impressed with. Guys like Raul Ibanez and Jayson Werth are guys I didn't expect to be as big of a factor like they are right now.

But these two along with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard can definately lead the team into the top five over the next couple of weeks. That's how good team is. There are so many good players that no many fans have paid attention to.

10. St. Louis Cardinals (21-15, Last Week: No. 5)

Wasn't this the team that I had at No. 1 not too long ago? The Cardinals have not played their best baseball recently, they hold a 5-9 record in the month of May and have only won four of their last 10.

St. Louis could have a hard time getting back to the top of the Central Division because they have better teams like Milwaukee, Chicago, and Cincinnati ahead of them, who are all playing very well. Good luck, Cardinals! You're going to need it!

11. Atlanta Braves (18-18, Last Week: No. 17)

12. New York Yankees (19-17, Last Week: No. 18)

13. Los Angeles Angels (18-17, Last Week: No. 11)

14. Detroit Tigers (19-16, Last Week: No. 8)

15. Kansas City Royals (19-18, Last Week: No. 10)

16. Tampa Bay Rays (18-20, Last Week: No. 16)

17. Houston Astros (16-19, Last Week: No. 21)

18. Minnesota Twins (18-19, Last Week: No. 23)

19. San Francisco Giants (18-18, Last Week: No. 12)

20. Florida Marlins (18-19, Last Week: No. 15)

21. Baltimore Orioles (16-21, Last Week: No. 24)

22. Oakland Athletics (13-20, Last Week: No. 25)

23. Pittsburgh Pirates (15-21, Last Week: No. 30)
