Chien Ming Wang Dissapoints, Brett Tomko Impresses in Loss to The Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees did not have any luck on offense, pitching or defense as they lost to the Boston Red Sox 8-4 at City of Palms Park.

Ching Ming Wang started on the mound for the Yankees and he had a night to forget. Wang only managed to go 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run.

That line might seem good, but when you add in the six hits and the seven runs, two of which came on home runs by Mike Lowell and David “Big Papi” Ortiz that Wang gave up, the line becomes awful quickly.

Wang did have some help when it came to his terrible outing; Yankees' First Basemen Juan Miranda threw a ball hit by Brad Wilkerson in to centerfield, prolonging the inning and the error led the six unearned runs.

The lone bright spot in the game was Brett Tomko, who pitched 3.1 shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out 5. Tomko signed a minor league deal with Yanks in the offseason and was not thought to be a contender to break north with the team, rather just a filler type.

But with a 1.74 ERA for the spring, Tomko has propelled himself in to the eyes of Yankees and he now has a shot to be part of the bullpen for the 2009 season.
