Chris Coste: The Ultimate Survivor

When the word survivor comes up, immediately you think of the television series.

By definition, survivor means to prosper spite of opposition.

It just seems fit to call Chris Coste the "Ultimate Survivor" as he once again proved all the doubters wrong - like he has in the past.

Coste's back-up job seemed to be in jeopardy when the Phillies traded for catcher Ronny Paulino this past offseason, except that experiment failed when the Phils traded Paulino to San Francisco for Jack Taschner - Paulino was then spun to Florida.

Another candidate to take his job is Lou Marson, a highly regarded catching prospect that shined in the Olympics with Team USA, but Marson is not ready to take to reigns.

Time in and time out, Coste has spit in the face of adversity, gave it to the man or you can insert whatever cliche you like.

The 33-year-old rookie from three years back that no team gave him a chance until the Phillies did and he proved himself worthy of spot on a Major League roster.

You can look at the numbers and they have been decreasing over the past three seasons, but he still can be a productive offensive catcher that starts once a week.

Coste is a career .288 hitter with 21 home runs and 90 RBIs with a career .338 OBP.

The North Dakota native numbers have been decreasing since he came into the league in 2006, but he still is a productive hitter.

In 98 games last season, Coste had a .263 batting average, had nine homers and 36 RBIs. His average dropped 16 points from 2007.

The part of his game that everyone seems to have a problem with his is defensive game and how he calls the game.  Don't tell the pitchers that, they'll just disagree with you.

Cinderella stories usually last what a year?  His just keeps on going.

Before you doubt him, prepare yourself to be proven wrong.
